I just heard something on the news which caused my feelings to run the gamut from horror, to rage, to pity. In the foothills of West Virginia a black woman was held captive, tortured, stabbed, and sexually assaulted for a week. She was also subjected to racial slurs during this time and made to eat animal waste. The 6 white people who were arrested for this crime included a mother and son, and a mother and daughter. What could have been on these people's minds? I don't understand how anyone could treat another human being in such a fashion. Luckily the 20-year-old young woman survived and is recuperating in the hospital. Will the day ever come when we will no more hear of things like this?

I feel that as long as extreme racism runs rampant, we'll continue to hear of such disturbing stories such as the one you brought to our attention. It really disturbs me that racism is still a major part of this country, in which I really don't get, since we all bleed the same, we all know what emotion is. The only difference is skin color.
Meh, racism just needs to stop, it's just as bad as judging a person without ever knowing who they really were/are.

You are so right, jeweled. It brings to mind that song written (I think) by Bob Dylan, "Blowin' in the Wind." I believe it sums up all of the pressing issues in our society. It was true when he wrote it, and it is still just as relevant today.

I just heard that story on the news today. The black women had met a Man online and agreed to meet up with the guy. I feel so sorry for that Women no one should have to go through that. NO ONE. You never who people are when chating online. That is crazy all the stuff the women had to go through to be forced to eat dog and rat waste they would have had to kill me and to be torchured by more than one person. She is a true surviver. The poor girl was looking for love not hate. So sad. What is this world coming too

Yeah, msjigga, and have you noticed that these people seem to run in packs like wolves. I suppose they are too cowardly to do their evil deeds on their own. I am praying for this young woman. She must be horribly traumatized.

This is just astounding. What could the people who did this have been thinking? How could anyone do this to someone else?
I am very hopeful that incidents like these will stop happening. I hope that people who do things like this are prosecuted to the full extent of the law, so that everyone can see that this is unacceptable, and people will learn.
Still, how can anyone not know that it is wrong to hurt another person deliberately?

These kinds of acts are indeed unacceptable to those of us who are intelligent enough to discern the difference, cute, but there are so many who still live in ignorance that I don't see an end to it.

I don't know, 3lilangels, if people who do these kinds of things are sick. I think that hatred is the driving force behind them. It's very disheartening to know that people can hate you simply because of who you are.

I didn't see your post until after I posted mine. It is very sad that Beast-Like mentality people are allowed to walk the earth. There are alot more out there that think like those that tortured the young lady. To think even women being involved in this is very sickening. We are nurturers. What happened?

Hatred is a powerful emotion, grandview. It thrives when a group of like-minded people get together to keep it fueled. I find it particularly disturbing that mothers were involved in this outrage.

That is absolutely horrific! People like this should be locked away for a long time. Unfortunately though i don't think we'll see the end of things like this anytime soon.
My half brother is 9 years old and is mixed race: my mum's white, his dad's african. He has been subjected to racial slurs since he was about 4 years old! He gets things shouted at him by kids his own age but also by older teenagers and it makes me so mad! Children should not have to be subjected to this kind of abuse. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying anyone should but it seems that bit worse when its children. It just show that racism is not dying out as these kids are being brought up to abuse people who's skin is a different colour.

I really wish that I knew the answer, hailie, but, I'm afraid it will continue to be just as you say. You would think that after so many centuries mankind would have learned that love is the answer, but history just keeps repeating.

This is so sad. I think that they should do the same to the people that did this. It is unexcusable. I feel so sorry for the young lady. What makes people think that they have the right to do such a thing. It is horrible.

We will continue to face these problems, Thoroughrob, as long as there are people in the world who consider themselves superior to others simply because of the color of their skin. Don't they realize that we are all the same underneath?

What is on the minds of some people? This is the same question I ask regarding the terrorists who made 9/11 happen, something that is on my mind today, since it was 6 years ago those attacks happened. What is it that makes people attack other people?

The only answer I can think of is that the milk of human kindness has gone from many people, danishcanadian. It would be so nice if everyone would treat others the way they want to be treated.

Ok first off yes those people do deseserve to be put to the rack, burned at the stake, and beheaded... LOL Just my thoughts on the subject.
I don't think anyone should have to go through this sort of tourture or pain for any reason. I feel so sorry for her.
My next thing is a racist crime or "hate crime" should never go unnoticed or unpunished...
Okay now that I have taken care of the criminals, what about the victim? I mean really what was she thinking?!?
First off IF IF you meet anyone off of the internet you should NEVER EVER go anywhere private! EVER She should have met him somewhere very public, the mall, or the city library, or someplace very public.
Not that she is to blame, she is the victim here, but let's get real, she probably could have got out of it if it was at the mall or somewhere.

This happened not to far from where I live.A hour away.I couldn't believe my ears.I cried for her.How horrible these people are to have done this to her,or to anyone!I thought dear Lord,Why can there be peace and not this junk!I am happy to know she survived al of this. But I know she will never be over this.It will haunt her forever. She will have to iron -steel family and friend support to help her every day.And iI the only day that will end the worlds hate crimes is Jugement Day.I just hope when they do get into prison and all, they meet up with worse people than they are and they get some torment from them.Eye for a eye in this case. And to me that still isn't good enough for them. But that is just my ideas on it all.

How absolutely sickening! You know our husbands, fathers, uncles, grandparents (depending on our generation) fought the Nazi @axis of evil' to rid this world of killings based on religion, infirmity, colour etc and yet in this day and age it still goes on. This poor woman must be absolutely traumatised by such an horrific ordeal - I will keep her in my prayers.
As for the so called 'people' who comitted this crime - they should be dropped on a remote desert island and abandoned there! xxx

The people in this world are getting more and more sick every day and it is up to the public to do something about it to try and change things.
