Has Being In An Elevator Ever Scared You?

Today I was coming from an appointment of sorts and I got on the slow moving elevator to go to the ground floor. On the seventh floor a man who appeared to be a transient beach bum got on. He had no shirt on. He was one of those people who you never no what they could be capable of and we were the only ones on there.
For some reason, the elevator stopped and opened on each floor, but no one got on. I assumed that people got tired of waiting and took the stairs, since the other elevator was out of order. Each time the door opened, he would speak and motion for the person to hurry before the door closed.
The second time it happened, I wanted to see which one of us was four cans shy of a six pack. So I peeked out and commented that there was no one out there. He said, it is probably a ghost. I said, well perhaps he has stepped in already. I quickly pushed the close door button.
He continued to do this all the way down and I continued to lean on that button. When we finally got to the ground floor, he had the nerve to tell me to have a nice day. I thought to myself, I will, now that I am getting away from you. Has anyone ever spooked you in an elevator?

Hi Rozie37! Oh, that is kinda spooky. I never had any encounter that kinda spooked me or scared me somehow in elevators. And I hope there won't come a time that I will have such an encounter. I guess, that is why I ride the levator when there are other people who are already in it and if I will just be alone and I don't think I will be safe, I will just take the stairs if I can. Take care and have a nice day.

I never had such an experience like that and I hope nobody would ever spooked me in an elevator. I've heard a lot of scary experiences in the elevator and I've also seen a lot on movie scenes. I feel scared to ride in an elevator if I'm alone and the building I'm in is pretty old.

I have had experiences where the person in the elevator was wearing a lot of perfume, and I couldn't breathe, but none like the one you described. That must have been such an anxious experience. I think I might have gotten out and taken the stairs.

He was quite spooky. I have no idea who he was talking to. But, he sounded very enthusiastic while inviting these people/ghost to come in the elevator. I was actually hoping that someone would enter for the rest of the trip down. But, it just didn't happen that way.

Oh wow, what a weirdo. He must live in his own world. I've never encountered anyone like that on an elevator before, but I tend not to take them because they kinda freak me out sometimes. I'm claustrophobic, and I swear I can almost feel myself getting shorter and shorter of breath the longer I am in an elevator. I did encounter a man outside of a convenience store once that really creeped me out. He was sitting on a bench and he kept asking everyone that went in if they have ever killed before. He was porbably just a senile old man, but still. I don't want someone asking me if and how many people I have killed. Ummmmm...none thanks. Some people need to stay home or be monitered daily.

I hate elevators! They are to small, to slow or to fast and you can't see what is going on around you. You don't have any control over who is on with you and you can't just get off when you want to. I am closterphobic so elevators make this worse. If I don't have to be on one I won't the stairs are much better and I have bad knees so for me to say that is a big thing.

yes I had to go up to a fourth floor in an old building for a two week course, it was one of those old ones where you have to pull a wire cage type door first then the other door, and it rattled all the way up, so unless I had someone with me I used to walk up the stairs. one way to keep fit I guess...

That would be a little spooky. I can say, I have been in alot of them but never had an experience like that. The only time I was scared, was when the elevator stopped and we were stuck in there for over an hour. It was a total glass elevator and we could see the people rushing around trying to get us out. I am glad it was glass or else I would have really been freaking out. It still was an awful feeling, knowing you were stuck.

As a matter of fact, yes. I have encountered an experience with a man which made me feel spooky all the way down to the ground floor. It was in the middle of a hectic afternoon, and at that time I was shopping alone in a quiet supermarket. Not many people were around, most probably because most of them are at work and the rest of them prefer to be at home due to the hot weather.
I have bought the things I wanted, and headed for the elevator. When I entered, there was already a person who wore a black jacket with a pair of jeans. He had on a pair of dark glasses and a round hat. He had on a pair of black leather shoes. He didn't say anything, but he whistled and whistled non stop. We were the only people inside the elevator.
I noticed that he kept staring at me. I began to feel nervous and prayed for the elevator to be go down quicker. He was standing at my back and I was standing just near the exit so that if anything happens I could just press the emergency button and call for help.
Fortunately nothing happened but the man really gave me the creeps. His eyes even though hidden behind his glasses kept staring at me, as if he is planning something to do to me. Lol. That's my experience, pal. Have a nice day.

I've actually never been spooked in an elevator by someone else. All of my creepy, weird experiences have happened when I'm by myself. I don't like being in an elevator by myself unless I'm really in a hurry and the people in the elevator are holding me up.

I've been spooked by the thought of the elevator door not opening or it crashing, but no not b/c of some strange person in there with me. Girl, I would have gotten off on the next floor and waited for another elevator, you are surely braver than me. Glad you got to where you needed to be and were ok. Be careful.

I used to have to take foster kids to counceling and the office was on the third floor. We had to take the elevator up and down every time we went and it rattled and wheezed the whole way. I hated taking that thing but the stairwell was unlit and I was terrified worse of getting jumped in a dark stairwell. Thankfully I don't have to go there anymore.

not exactly being spooked by another fellow elevator user but an event. i was in an elevator with 3 other people. one was a friend of mine, another a pregnant woman and the third is a young women.
while the elevator was going up to 26th floor, somewhere in between earth and sky, the elevator stopped and the lights went out.
in the dark i heard the pregnant woman starting to whimper and the girl breathing heavily. i just spoke up telling everyone in the elevator to just stand where they are and it will be over in a few. had to use the "seminar" tone to get calm every one down. to tell you the truth, if anyone was to loose it first it would be me!
the last thing i want are screaming woman (and man..my friend later admitted he almost lost it). it sure spooked me when i imagine the other people in the elevator starting to go amok and claw and scratch at me. skins coming off with blood everywhere and hair being pulled out and eyeballs coming out of socket...dang imagination.
less than a minute (which felt like forever) the lights came on and the elevator started moving again. we all just smiled at each other but my friend who was standing behind me was now squatting on the floor!

Now, that could have turned into quite an ordeal. Probably not in the way that you imagined it. But, the stress of the event could have caused the lady to go into premature labor. Looks like your friend could have passed out in any second. The other lady could have panicked and slapped you around a little bit,LOL, while you were helping the mother deliver her baby.
I think that you were trying to say that you were trying to help yourself stay calm while talking to the others to be calm. You said that you should have been the one to loose it first. I am very happy that everything turned out alright.

Fear of elevators often is a combination of the fear of heights and claustrophobia. Using virtual reality therapy the patient enters an elevator in a tall building. The patient starts out on the ground level looking out onto an indoor atrium moving to higher and higher levels. Without ever leaving the ground, the patient experiences the range of feelings associated with an actual elevator. Taking plenty of time and practicing anxiety management techniques you are led slowly and comfortably from one level to the next. The goal is for you to be able to master your anxious feelings throughout the entire experience of riding in an elevator. The patient uses a joystick to move the elevator up and down, at his or her own pace.
