Research shows that eating plant foods can help fight cancer, because fruits and vegetables contain disease-preventing compounds called phytochemicals. These substances provide more health benefits than vitamins and minerals alone. They slow the absorption and disable or stop the binding of cancer-causing substances (carcinogens) within cells. They also may slow the growth of cancer cells. The phytochemical content of different fruits and vegetables varies by color. Each has a unique function. Fruits and vegetables with cancer-fighting qualities include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts (called cruciferous vegetables), citrus fruits and berries, onions and garlic, and brightly colored vegetables like carrots, squash, tomatoes, spinach, peppers, and beets. Eat at least five or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Include several servings of whole grain breads, cereals, or beans. Limit the amount of high-fat foods, especially high-fat meats. Round out your diet with four to six ounces of protein a day from lean sources such as lean beef, pork, poultry, fish, beans, and lower-fat dairy products. Keep meats from charring when you grill them. Source : http://www.parknicollet.com/healthadvisor/healthyliving/nutrition_2.cfm

Personally, I see to it that I have to eat at least one kind of fruit a day. Nowadays, our place is having abundant supply of Rambutan, Lanzones and Mangosteen fruits. My favorite is banana and Ponkan.

Other News I have found interesting about fruit is this: An Apple a day really keep the doctor away. A chemical found in the skin of apples and other fruit, can boost the immune system and stave off illness. US research have found. The scientists gave to 40 cyclists a high dose of quercetin- a type of antioxidant found in apples. During intensive training 9 cyclists not given the chemical suffered chest infections compared with just one in the quercitin group, said a report, published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.

In fact, when I eat apples I do not remove their skin because I know that the nutrients are most found on them, usually just beneath their skin accordingly.
