yes i still do know how to. its like riding a bike, you still know how to even you stopped for a long time. if you want to be a pro on using one, practise it in corn kernel. my mom did that to us so we became expert on it. it was not easy but it will help you control the stick properly.

I completely forget how old I was when I started to learn using chopsticks. It must be very little. Perhaps it's around 4 years old.

I'm 25. I haven't a clue how to eat with chopsticks. Truthfully I don't really eat anything that requires me to use chopsticks and if I do then I usually just use a fork. To me, it's not important to know how to use chopsticks. Plus, I'm ver uncoordinated so I don't think I ever could use them.

I don't purposely avoid eating thing things that require chopsticks. It's just the things I eat, don't require chopsticks. actually pretty much the only thing I get from chinese food places is Chicken or Shrimp fried rice. and you don't use chopsticks to eat that. at least i've never seen anyone.
It's not important to me. I guess, maybe it's wrong, but I'm American...and I rarely eat chinese or any of those types of food that need chopsticks so it's not my culture and i don't see why I would need to be bothered to learn it.
it sounds bad I'm sure, but I mean... if someone ONLY ate with chopsticks in their culture, and then they came to a place that uses forks, i don't think they should be required to use forks.

I have known how to use chopsticks since I was 5 years olds. I asked the waitress at a Chinese restaurant to teach me how. My hubby loves to use chopsticks and will only eat Chinese food with chopsticks.

most asian countries use chopsticks for their meals. here in the philippines though, we use spoon and fork. i first saw my brother turn his bamboo barbeque sticks into chopsticks when i was just 10years old. i got really curious and tried doing it too. so we'd do that sometime even when eating rice even if it makes eating really hard. but i got better at using it as i am good with the regular spoon and fork. i just turned 26 last saturday and it makes me proud to at least be able to eat using chopsticks at japanese, korean and chinese restaurants.

I'm not Chinese so I didn't grow up using them so I was grown I don't know what age but certainly an adult. I lived in Taiwan for two years and I knew how to use chop sticks before I moved there. I'm good at using them except for the long slippery ones I hate those. I like the wooden ones a lot better. I've had Asian people who saw me use chopsticks said oh you can use them so well. As if just because they invented them that anyone else can't use them as well as they can. It's almost like me telling them oh look how good you use the fork that was so hard to master.

Hi, I forget the age when I begin to use chopsticks, maybe two or three.
How did I learn it? I don't know 'coz I was too young to recall it. It's very
common for Asian people to use chopsticks. Having using chopstiks, you'll find
it's a very flexible way to choose and pick up the food you want to have in a dish.
Just keeping practice, you'll have more surprise and fun!!

I am also trying to learn to use chopsticks to eat with as my husband and I will be going to Japan in the spring. I have a hard time holding them and have not been able to eat with them either. I may have to take plastic silverware in my luggage for the trip. LOL!!

i learned to use chopsticks when i was 10 years old. it was when i saw my older brother use bamboo barbeque sticks as chopsticks. i was really interested but i didnt even know they are called chopsticks then. as i grew up i learned about it and got even more intersted in using them.
once i was on field work and i didnt bring any spoon or fork, i just brought with me a pack of disposable chopsticks.

I started when I was about 6 or 7, but I grew up in a Korean/soulfood culture in Hawaii, so whenever my grandmother would come over or we'd go out to eat, it was always chopsticks. A lot of Hawaiian places are pure Japanese, so that helped. If you want to accelerate your learning, put away all of your forks and just eat with the chopsticks for a while. Or you could fold up a piece of paper until it's fairly thick, stick it between the chopsticks at the top, and wrap a rubber band around it. The paper will hold the sticks apart and the rubber band will allow you to close them. That's how I taught my younger siblings. It helps you learn the proper form while building your confidence. Good luck!
Blessed Be

Hmm! :D I was probably around 7 or 8 when I learned how to use chopsticks. I only got a hang of it when I was around 10 though. XD;; I'm still not very skillful but I can manage. :3
Yeah, using chopsticks is really fun! When I went for a student exchange in program for 8 days in Japan, I used chopsticks every single day. x__x I was lucky that I could use it or else it'd be embarrassing. Since using chopsticks isn't something new or uncommon, I was eating like the rest of my Japanese foster family. :3
I still use chopsticks when I'm at home too~ Can't afford to let the ability to go to waste, nyahaha.

when i was a kid, maybe five, I've started picking up the chopstick since it was a part of our diner routine. And once my parents saw that I can handle the chopstick, they praised me so using chopstick was not a diffucult thing to do for me. I used chopsticks whenever i can, chinese restos and even banquet celebration with ease. Its really fun and yes very convenient. As much as i can and if there's chopsticks around, i used it since you can get the food you want conveniently.
Just keep practising and watch others how they do it, its really easy and fun.
