I've always seemed to suffer with depression and anxiety, I've been treated for years, I took paxil for several years, then it was changed to Welbutrin. 2007 has been a tough year for me, I lost my mom in mid February after being in the hospital since the beginning of January, then there was the stress of my son not graduating and fighting with him to complete his online courses to get his diploma. In the last month alone, I've had three friends pass away, which means 3 more memorial services, and my oldest son was in 2 car accidents, one of which he was injured and went to the hospital by ambulance with a sprained back and a broken nose. I know it could have been worse, but it was enough to increase my stress level to the point of anxiety, panic attacks, non stop eating, not wanting to do anything and too many crying spells. Last week I went to the doctor for a physical and talked to him about it, he added zoloft to the mix, it really has helped already. I know some people feel that depression is not a disease, but it is and it can be very painful, not just for the one depressed, but for those around them too. My family notices a change too. Have you ever gotten help to deal with depression? If not, talk to a doctor, it may help. I do know sometimes even that doesn't always help, but see someone about it, please. I also find that "talking" to people here helps some too. I know I could never talk face to face with anyone about my problems, but it helps to vent here.

I am glad you are feeling better, it has been a very bad year for you! I can only say I am sorry and will keep you in my prayers! I too, have suffered with depression due to some stresses in my life but with medication I have begun to feel up again. I have also been talking ot a counsler and you would be surprised how it has helped, at first like you I was leary of talking to a stranger face to face, but it became easier. They don't judge, they don't really say anything, just let you figure out what your problems are and they comment on the triggers of depression. We can only help ourselves, no one else can make us happy again!

Thank you for your comments and I too will keep you in my thoughts, as I do all of my mylot friends. I agree that we can only help ourselves to be happy. It's a struggle, but I know it can be done. Just knowing that other people care and have been there before helps too.

You really have had a full plate this year! I know how it feels, I have been dealing with my own anxiety and depression as well. My husband left for Iraq for the 2nd year in a row, we have been having problems with our duaghter and her studies, she barely passed the 7th grade, I have moved from my family, now pretty much alone aside from my church congregation and a couple of new friends. I now have health issues that I cant seem to get answers for. I can't even wear a shoe on my left foot, so here comes the weight again. I can't work right now, so finances are tighter than ever even with his combat pay, and I sit at home and stare at the walls, with my dog, who has been diagnosed with diabetes, has gone blind from his cataracts in the last two months and is now having seizures. Yeah, i know what you mean. I am going to have to go back to the doctor and request a higher dosage of my lexapro. Keep the faith girlfriend, it will get better! If you need anyone to talk to mail me! :)

You've had a tough time too, thanks for your comments and you also keep the faith and I'm here if you want to talk. I'd also like you to know that my husband and I are huge supporters of the military men and women and their families, you'll be in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi gapeach:)
I too have been struggling with depression and anxiety for the last 2 years. After alot of failures my doctor finally hit on a mix that works well for me. Lexapro and Ativan, they have changed my life. My family has noticed the difference as well and call my meds "moms happy pills". I'm so much more relaxed and yes even happy! I don't know what i would have done if my doctor hadn't been so good and open. Thank the Lord for her!
I hope you are well and continue to get better:)

Gapeach:)
My kids do the exact same thing! If I get upset with them for some infraction, the first thing out of their mouths.."did you take your happy pill"...sheesh little brats!
I'm grateful though that they recognize the difference in me. I hope it only gets better:)

Hi, and thanks for sharing your story with us. It really helps to see that others have been through the same sort of things. I'm glad you and your doctor have found something to work for you. So far, mine's working too.
I had to laugh when I saw that your family also calls your medicine "moms happy pills", that's exactly what my family calls mine. At times when I would get mad at my son or daughter, when they were younger, they would always ask, "did you take your happy pill today mom?" Thanks for the little laugh.

Yes I have gotten help for depersion but unlike you I have been unable to find a medication to help. I did find out after a while that it was not just depression but a bigger mental illness. These things are very real. It is a chemical reaction in the brain that is hard to control. It is better to seek help than to risk hurting yourself or someone else. I tried talking to a counsuler and that did not work well. She had a very large mouth. It does help being on this site where no one knows my real name and I can be honest without fear of betrayal. I have lost to many friends to suiside to take this lightly and when you get so low living is not worth it coming back up takes tremendous will power.

every one may suffer from high pressure in life, work or family.troubles are always around us.so we must learn to face it and deal with it.in my opinion,if something terrible happens, you could appeal to your best friends.after a face to face talk, you may feel better.and you can also travel to a unfamiliar place making some new friends
