Taming The Wire Beast..Is There Really Light At The End of The Tunnel?

Throughout the years, there have been some fine methods of keeping those pesky wires and cables under control. From taping them down to those nifty plastic cable ties all have their own unique way in helping.
However, although these methods of cable ties, plastic tubing or pipe (whatever you wish to call it), and or taping them down; are methods that do work well (sometimes a little to well), I find it just as much a pain in the rear, as it is to just have cables laying about.
Why? You ask. Well I have this tendency to get bored frequently with the way things have been set up within my home, so on a near weekly basis I am rearranging my furniture and whatever else I can get my hands on and can be moved to a new position, which also undoubtedly involves my computer. (I think I may have some sort of compulsive disorder, but that has yet to be determined.) So since I can't afford to replace most of my cables with longer ones at this time (which to me would be a good decision, so I could contain them and move things at will), I have to undo previous attempts to tame them, so I can unhook them and coil them for storage purposes until I have arranged everything to my liking.
What I am going on about is, is there a way for a person like me (one who likes to move things about constantly) to be able to contain this wire mess without having to deal with the hassle of undoing everything, than once again trying to contain a disaster from happening with my computer cables?

I try to keep all my computer related cables together with a cable tie, and all my music related cables seperate and cable tied. It's not a perfect solution really but it seems to help. I wish I could invest in some of the wireless technology though, that would solve the problem fairly swiftly

Yeah I do have to agree with you on the case of the wireless gadgets for the computer, but they are a bit to pricey, and I have a family that needs the money more than my computer habit does at the moment. It's just gets mildly annoying to be having so many cables around going this way and that. But most the equipment that I have is necessary since I have a lot, and I mean A LOT of stuff that I have to keep backed up and what not.

Try using a USB multi-port hub for your connections. Most Hubs are powered for most of your devices to remain powered even if your computer itself is off. Using the Hub with very short cables to all of your periphials will allow you to quickly move your home office space around.

Thanks for the tip. I will be sure to take this into consideration as soon as I start tackling my computer cables again. Today is basically gonna be a lazy day for me, since I am not feeling well this morning. Thanks again! :)

I really wish I knew th answer, jeweled, because I have the same problem. It's very hard for me to leave things as they are for a long period of time. My sister used to tease me about my always changing everything around. I think that some of us are just made that way. The best solution I've found is to try and find items that have casters so that you can roll them easily to where you want them. It doesn't solve all the problems, but it might help.(:

Thanks for the tips worldwise! :) I will check into my local furniture store and see what they have in the way computer safe desks and other office like things that are on wheels. It may very well be what I am looking for. Though it will have to provide a large work space, since I run a business from my home and need it to spread out my papers and things that I am working on at the time. Thanks again.

One thing I've done is to group some cables that run to the same places together.
For example, I've twisted my monitor data cables and monitor power cables together (dual monitors) into a bundle four cables thick.
Other things you can do that with:
Keyboard/mouse
Speaker cables (if more than 2 speakers)
Also, you might look into using more wireless gadgetry, in order to eliminate some of the wires entirely.
The ultimate, of course, would be a laptop, which can be moved around with very little effort indeed.

Thanks for the tips. I will give that a shot, and see if less hair pulling is involved..lol It's much appreciated
I've given some thought to wireless gadgets and of course the laptop, but since I have a family to think of at this time, those things I will have to save up for, since they are a bit pricey for the budget we have in place at this time.
