alrite.. i m no movie freak and i barely watch four or five movies a year (i dont go to cinemas, i watch it on the dvd) and i try to make sure that those four or five movies are good movies (by checking the reviews on the internet).
so i bought this movie called 'the departed' because it has this big cast including matt damon, leonardo di caprio and jack nicholas and the movie also won the oscar for being the best movie of 2006.
watched the movie and hated it! what was so amusing about the movie? there was surely lots of 'F' word in the movie. the story... well it was something new (atleast to me...) but not very gripping or nail biting nor did i felt that it was 'a gritty tense cop-suspense thriller' as said in a review. how come was it a thriller when we all knew that which characters were involved in the plot. the acting was at par, but certainly cant be termed as 'great'. i guess i have never felt bored seeing violence in a movie - but this movie was an exception. it felt so dull - boring from the beginning till the end.
i m also quite puzzled how they ended up in deciding to give this movie an oscar? what was the 'wow-factor' in this movie?

"The Departed" is one of the best thrillers I have seen in a long time, and I personally believe Martin Scorsese's best in a very long time. It is as tense as tense as "Goodfellas" was (I am in the minority who did not like "Casino"). The movie is only as good as it's leads, and DiCaprio and Damon are the best at this sort of thing. Of course you have Jack Nicholson doing some of his haredest thug stuff since I don't know when. Then there's the supporting cast, Mark Wahlberg is good as Costigan's handler, as is Martin Sheen as the Undercover Squad's chief. Alec Baldwin also is great as the Sullivan's boss, actually handled himself well.
This is a great modern mob movie, one that is well worth your time, it's tense, brutally violent, well thought out, and intelligent, and has a twist ending that I never saw coming. A great movie by the genre's master.

u are exaggerating too much or maybe u havent seen many good "thrillers". there wasn't much suspense in the movie that could have have kept the audience guessing of what was going on... u know exactly who is involved in the plot (and that too from the beginning_.. who is betraying the police and who is in the mafia giving out info to the police.
yes, it has a twist in the ending but it wasn't a big surprise either, it was kinda expected.
personally i think matt damon's bourne identity and bourne supremacy were a LOT better thrillers than this movie.

i like the departed because of matt damon and mark wahlberg joined the movie, and i've been really waiting for that to happen for a long time, but in overall i mostly prefer the original departed which comes from hongkong's "Internal Affairs"..
