Traditionally, the festival used to be big in Maharashtra. Over the last decade it became very big in North India as well. Five years back it started being celebrated in a big way in Hyderabad. This year I am seeing it being celebrated in Chennai with pandals and all which is a big surprise.
The only flip side is that in the name of God these people build pandals on the roads and block it for everyone which is bad!!
Cheers!

I don't know much about the rituals of celebrating Ganesh Chathurthi. We are from Kerala and don't celebrate this festival. I know it's a very big festival in Maharashtra (esp. Pune).
But our family does celebrate the day because my older son was born on Ganesh Chathurthi:) He is Pranavswaroop.
