When I can't sleep I listen to music .And I find this method is very useful to me .But my friend can't sleep by doing this ,so I think it's not suitable to everyone. I think you can have a try!

no, listening to music wont work for me. because, when i know the song, i sing along with it. so it just makes my mind active. lol

Its a good thing you come up with this topic g3raldine. Well as for me.. if ever i cant sleep it always depends on what time is it.. If ever its before 10 pm i'll rather get myself a cup of hot chocolate and watch TV or listen to music. If ever i woke up later then that.. probably at anytime after 1 r 2 am.. i just get a glass of water.. just plain water.. and i just do some prayers sitting on my bed and later if i still cant sleep.. i just go out to my balcony.. i just my myself feel free and look at the beautiful night sky and feel the breeze and i just wait till my eye is heavy.

i often have trouble falling asleep and found that i focus on a word and clear my mind of everything else (i am a writer and always have stuff running thru my mind) i also play a game. its an alphabet game (i know it sounds corny, but bear with me) i go thru the alphabet naming something that starts with each letter...such as names, countries, foods, events in history (i am a history fanatic!) stuff like that, and i generally eventually fall asleep. if all else fails, i go on the computer.

if i can't sleep at night, then i will take a bath. usually, i want to sleep after a hot bath. if it doesn't work, then i will power on my computer, and post some discussions and responses with listening to lyric music. usually i will be tired at 2:00 a.m., then i go to bed. sometimes, i can wake up till morning, then i have breakfast, and go to bed. don't be excited and boring before going to bed. if you are too excited, then do some exercise.

I know how truly frustrating it could really get sometimes, especially when you've tried every conceivable way to tire your eyes and finally dive into a deep sleep, but to no avail still. In my case, I just try to myLot and watch tv at the same time to tire my eyes and tire my mind, and luckily, it oftentimes does the trick. I also try to have a movie marathon at times and eat a lot of carbohydrates while watching movies so as to make my quest to catch sleep a bit easier. At times, I likewise try to listen to my ipod and play hypnotic songs (those actually designed to induce sleep) in order to relax my senses and help put me into a state of deep slumber. I honestly hope that the simple experiences of an insomniac like me would be, in any way, of help to you, g3raldin3.

Have you been in a graveyard shift just recently, or for sometime now? If you're new to the graveyard shift and you have trouble sleeping, I think your body has not adjusted yet to your new routine. Maybe your surrounding is noisy. How about listening to love songs or instrumental songs... For me that helps. But don't worry, once you get the hang of it, your body will get use to it. And one more thing, maybe you were drinking a lot coffee while doing your graveyard shift. It can also affect your sleeping.

oh yeah, my surrounding is noisy this week. there is a new occupant beside my room and since they are just moving in, they are so noisy arranging their things, etc. and that disturbs me a lot. i dont listen to instrumental songs when i'm in bed, i will just end up singing especially if i know the lyrics, it will not work for me, it will just let my mind active. and i stopped drinking coffee by the way just last year. well, anyway, thanks for the post jhanna.

I read a book, when I read a book I automatically get sleep. I never take and drink coffee or tea before going to bed. When I am tired I will get sound sleep.
