I had a dog when I was a child that I became so attached too that I still miss. I mean we became so close he was my best friend. He laughed when I laughed and cried when I cried. he was an Alaskan Spitz I received when I left the 5th grade to go into junior high. I still miss Fuzzy. I avoided getting another dog for many years because I didn't want to grieve again. I've had few but I still grieve when I'm separated from one of my animals.

We had a beautiful Dalmation named who was deaf... the training for her was completely different than any other pet we've had, involving foot stomps and hand signals... but she learned, and was a good girl.
What we didn't know was that she had an undersized liver... we knew she drank a lot, but she was also the biggest dog we'd ever had.
We went to see Hun's family in Texas, and left her with a 'friend'. She tied her up!!! because she didn't want to take the time to use the signals... she also only gave her water in the morning, and whe it was gone, it was gone.
We came back to find our girl very sick... the vet said we could get a liver transplant for her, but couldn't guarantee that she'd recover. I couldn's have another dog die for a 'maybe'... so we let her go.I vowed to never have another pet!
On a beautiful February day, Hun suggested a ride in the country... which is odd, since we live there! We stopped at a house I didn't know and went to the door... the woman was holding a Schnauzer puppy... I said NO and went back to the truck, he paid the lady and put the pup in my lap, saying HE wanted it!
By the time we got home, I'd lost my heart again... that was 14 years ago, and our Spud has given me back so much that I'd lost!! And now we have two more dogs...

I hear you. What part of Texas is your husband from? I'm from there too. I understand about the dog though. I still can't really talk about fuzzy. For one thing most people are so callous why waste my time talking about a creature that was dear to me. Just to have them talk over you . So I just keep him in my heart most of the time.
