Silence is golden. What do you think?

Silence is golden, but my eyes still see Silence is golden, golden, but my eyes still see Talkin’ is cheap people follow like sheep Even though there is no where to go How could she tell he decieved her so well Pity she'll be the last one to know * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I am a great believer in the sound of silence! I hate extraneous noise, and never have the TV or radio on "just for the sake of it". Unless I am actually sitting down watching a specific thing, or listening to a CD, I won't have any noise on just on in the background. It really distracts and irritates me. But I know a lot of people are very different from me. I personally love having silence around me. I can think and concentrate better, and it keeps my head together and my thoughts "cool". I love to get up early in the morning, and just sit in the garden having my breakfast and hearing nothing but the birds singing. SOmetimes my partner and I will spend a whole evening in companionable silence, with him reading and me on the computer. No background noise at all! So how about you? Do you enjoy peace, tranquillity and silence too? Or do you always have to have people and/or noise and music/TV around you?

Silence for me is manna from heaven! I love the peace and quiet and can quite happily just live and work with silence. I can't even study with noise, so everything is turned off, I can't even have music on when I am reading. Although I do love to hear the bird song and when I'm lying out in the garden reading it has to be nice and quiet, fortunately I don't have noisy neighbours.

I can't read with music or TV on either. It has to be quiet for me too! Thanks for responding.

I think you and I are kindred spirits rosie! I'm very comfortable with quiet, silence. I may have the radio on, like I do now at the classical music station, but so very, very low that it's hardly audible at all--any louder and I too would find it a distraction...I hardly have the TV on at all except a little before I go to bed, and usually to pop in one of my DVD movies to watch a bit...The only time I might really crank up music loud, is when I'm cleaning...and I love to sing along with my favorite CDs. I think people like us who enjoy the quiet, the silence indicates that we feel comfortable with our own company. I know one woman, who lives alone like I do, but is the type that literally has to turn on the two TVs, yes two as soon as she gets home--she has a tiny one in the kitchen, and then the one in the living room...to me that indicates that she needs that human contact somehow so she won't feel alone, and needs to hear human voices so not to feel so alone....She's not even watching them at all, but has them on all the time when she's home--I just might add she's also the type that has to grab a Bloody Mary as soon as she gets home..LOL--Kind of sad I think...

Yes i do agree with you on that. Many people just use extraneous noise as a way of feeling like they have some human contact (even though the TV can't talk to them or answer them back!), and I think it's because they feel insecure and unhappy with their own company. I knowopeople like the woman you mention. Perhaps it comes from being an only child in my case. I spent my childhood having to keep myself occupied with "quiet" games like reading, playing wth my dolls alone etc., and it teaches you self-reliance. Thanks for your great response.

Rosie thanks ever for the best response....You were an only child too?? Yes, I think us onlies had to learn very early how to keep ourselves "amused"...I spent years and years reading as a kid, and exploring my creativity...so I was always content with myself :)

I enjoy silence whenever I I feel that I need to concentrate on something, sleeping or resting. But I don't like people talking too much that they talk just to create noise, especially when they talk of nonsense stuffs. It annoys me when I am in the middle of my rest and hear noises, that atleast could be avoided. I enjoy quiet and peaceful background nowadays, as it is soothing and very relaxing..

Hi rosie, I like the silence too, but my wife is the opposite, She loves listening to music. When I'm alone in the house, I often just sit in silence, and as I like to say, 'just be'. Blessings.

I have to say it really depends on the situation because I'm legally deaf and I would give my right arm just to be able to hear like a normal person however this isn't what this is about so I'll get back on tract here. :) Depending on what's been seen is what should be told. If someone were cheating on another, I'd have to tell and then leave it up to the person in which way they want to handle the situation. However when in a noisy situation for long periods of time, I would say silence would be golden. Cheers to you my friend!

Yes I can understand that. My hearing is actually excellent, - very acute, - but my sight in one eye is very, very poor, and I would give anything to have that back to normal, so I do know where you are coming from. Thanks for responding.

I love the sound of silence, but for me it only comes late into the night. Working with kids during the day then coming home to my son playing his Drum and Bass music, my daughter playing her music or chatting on the phone and my partner playing his guitar I have to wait for them all to go to bed. Also, living in the heart of the city there is constant noise too, but luckily at night, as we have no through road you can hear a pin drop once all the teens on their peds are tucked up in bed!! I think this is why I love the early hours of the morning and end up surviving on little sleep just to get that bit of peace!! I am well jealous Rosie. I would love to have a garden and sit there listening to the birds singing away. All I tend to hear is the cooing of the London Pidgeon!!LOL

Well I'm only in the suburbs - I can get into the City in a few minutes on the train, but I guess it does make a difference, and having a garden is very important to me. I never stay up until the wee small hours - I'm normally fast asleep by 10.00pm! But I get my silence at the other end of the day! Thanks for responding.

I'd say about 85% of my day is spent in relative silence. These days tho' I'm noticing it and while somedays...mostdays I'm ok with it, somedays it's shouting out that I'm lonely. So I put on some music, radio or a CD or the TV. It's mostly just the pets and I here so that might account for it.

Yes - I guess that is a very different perspective from mine, where I spend most of my time either in a noisy, rush-hour, or at work surrounded by chattering colleagues, ringimg phones or irrtating clients! For me - the chance to have silence is definately golden:-=)) Thanks for responding.

Hi there, actually there's a lot of things that bugging my mind now, there's a lot of problems that really make me wanna scream and leave my life, but then im still standing with positives thoughts. I am just hoping that everything would be ok and would back to normal. As of now, i am into silence and i am enjoying my silence. I chose to live this way these days because i am feeling the heavy emotions, the depressions and all that and it really affects me a lot, through my mind, through my heart and etc. I am trying to release all the stress that im having and hoping that being in silence could really help me to relax and have a peaceful mind. Have a nice day ahead from Kiko and happy posting and earning here in MyLot and Godspeed!

Hiya Rosie, mostly when I am in my office I keep the golden silence, there are days however that I need music, and than I listen to saxofon music, or gregorian chants And I have the same with my partner, we both go to our offices after we have watched a movie together and we go into our works on the computers in silence. maybe I told you that I have very often headache, so it's understandable why I need less noice around me than most people :) + I need deemed lights most of thetime, and hate it when I have to put onthebig lights when peope are expected :)

Oh I am definately with you on the light situation, I hate bright, electric lights - in my case I think because of my eye proboem which means my eyes don't react to changes in light very well. I always just have lamps and dim lights, - and visitors just have to put up with it - LOL!
