What's the difference between a girlfriend material and a friend with benefits?

What qualities would you look for in a girlfriend that a 'friend with benefits' would possibly not have? And what's the difference between the two? How come men usually categorise women as one or the other and they rarely cross over?

Hmm. A girlfriend is someone who you envision a future with, someone you'll marry and possibly build a family with in the future. A girlfriend is someone who loves you and of course, someone you love, too, in a romantic kind of way. A friend with benefits is err, a friend? I dunno really. Probably someone who's there for you, someone who is also close to your heart, someone who could have been The Girlfriend but lacks the x factor. What the x factor is depends from person to person really. Hope it makes sense.

I can't wait to see responses to men on this one! I could never figure it out but I know I'm never going to be a fwb...it's not my style.
