I was inspired while a television show which promotes some of the best places in the world and even here in the Philippines, that showcases their distinct culture, traditions and history. Aside from the most famous landmarks and sceneries, what can you offer or showcase to people that they would try visiting or eating if ever they tour in your side of town? So if you're to promote your place or town for tourism, what do you think best describes it and what is the most unique food your town offers?
As for my town, aside from Cavite as being one of the historical place in the Philippines and being the cradle of revolution, it also offers the best and fresh seafoods. Seafoods like oysters and mussels, or the crispy "tahong" (mussel) chips that we have been promoting and started producing. Cavite is also known for one of the places that has unregistered or "loose" firearms, that's why we also have the trademark of "Cavite" etched in a carbine rifle.

I think beef is especially good in Kansas, as well as many wheat products. I do not know that I would necessarily rate my town over another. We do have a shop that has developed its own muffin mixes and pancake mixes from local flour, and also makes home made ice cream. There is a local meat cutter that has very high quality meat, and serves "picnic style" meals, that is barbecued or smoked meat sandwiches, with side dishes like baked beans or four bean salad or potato salad. We are still a primarily agricultural community, and those are the hearty types of foods that are produced here. Buffalo is also a meat you can get locally.

That's good, I would love to experience country-style of living. Fresh foods are good tasting, I think I'd go for buffalo meat for a try. Well those muffins must really be tempting to taste, I'd go for it anytime of the day as wel as wheats!;0

I am in a northern suburb of Minneapolis Minnesota USA. Minneapolis is loaded with many nightclubs in what's known as the "Warehouse District." It's of course the area that years ago was all warehouses. they nhave been changed into bars/nightclubs and the such. That is geared more towards the younger adults. Minneapolis is also known for =being an art type city. We have quite a few museums that are nationally known. One I did a discussion on long ago. It's called The Guthrie Theatre. They have art displays and mostly plays including Broadway plays. Downtown also has a couple theatres that have Broadway plays and musical acts etc all the time. Minneapolis is a very nice city with a varied cultural population. We have just about every country represented in outr population as well. We also have the Mississippi River running through the city in the downtown area. Many things along the river banks as far as asrt, activities and festivals throughout the year. The Mississippi River starts up in Northern Minnesota s well. That's a big tourist attraction as well.

That's good to hear GrandPa, I am also interested in going to musems. But unfortunately, we don't have one that is near to our place.
Mississippi River is famous all over the world, it's good to know that you are near it!;) We also have some special activities here, like festivals held on river deltas!;)

Hello!
I'm from General Santos City, Philippines. It is situated in the southern part of the country, in the province of South Cotabato. It is nicknamed as the "Tuna Capital of the Philippines" and is the leading producer of sashimi grade tuna. Aside from tuna, our city also offers different fruits, like pineapple, bananas..etc.
When you are in General Santos City, the must-eats are Tuna and Opah (Dayana), which come served as the exciting Sutukil:Sugba (charcoal-boiled in special sauce, dipped in the requisite Toyomansi), Tula (soup in ginger, onion, lemon grass, pechay and tomatoes) and Kinilaw [my hubby's fave!] (fresh cuts in vinegar, shallots, cucumber and pepper.
Every February, the city celebrates "Kalilangan" festival, and every September "Tuna Festival" is being celebrated. Hope you'll include Gensan in your next itenirary when you go to Philippines. *smile*
ciao! =)

I believe that GenSan is the the WORLD's largest exporter of tuna, because lots of country do get their tunas coming from the Philippines!;) Also, I believe that you have two famous boxers from that place, one was Rolando Navarette (who is now poor and sort of mentally-unstable) and the People's Champ -Manny Pacquiao!;)
My mother's province is in Aklan, they also celebrate one of the biggest festivals every January -which is the famous "Ati-atihan" festival!;)
BTW I also love kinilaw, because the fish used there are simply fresh and tasty..

LOL! i've completely forgotten to mention our famous boxers...well, you're right about Rolando Navarette, what a waste of talent, only him to be blame. Manny Pacquiao, i'm proud of him, of his achievements as a boxer especially 'coz he's from GenSan! but I don't like him outside the ring...especially his wife..*wehehe* intrique!!! and I dislike him most when he ran for congress! what an idiot! *hihihi* ooppss!
ciao! =)

Yep, heard everything about los baños and the origin of it's name. The foods, I am familiar with it too along with those other delicacies you've mentioned!;)
Aside from tahong (mussels), we also have the best place to enjoy the typical filipino refreshment (halo-halo) in Digman, Bacoor. We also have schools here such as San Sebastian in Cavite City and Philippine Christian University in Dasmariñas. Not to forget, the world's most smallest volcano -which is the Taal Volcano.
