We have here in the Philippines, a coffee made from coffee berries excreted by palm civet. These coffee berries which palm civets eat as one of their favorite foods will not be fully digested in their stomach and will be excreted. By then the coffee farmers gathers them in the forest, clean them then roast them. Several coffee here in the shops offer them as one of their specialties for 100 to 150 pesos (US$2 to $3). We call it cafe "alamid" as the palm civet is locally known as alamid. The flavor is very good it is like an enhanced brewed coffee. I've heard that in Australia, this kind of brew is very popular and sells for about 50 australian dollars per cup. Cafe Alamid anyone?

I love fresh ground coffee, but I'd love to know what a palm civet is? :-)

A palm civet is a hairy wild animal that hunts at night and eats insects and fruits such as the coffee berries, chiku, rambutan, etc., it is about the size of a cat but looks like a racoon. Its color is black and lives in the forest of southeast asia and some parts of China. Here in the Philippines we call it "Alamid" or "Musang".

Thanks for that information, sounds like a fascinating creature, I've possibly seen one on a nature programme.

I have heard of this & there is one more reason why i don't/won't drink coffee! Coffee beans that have gone thru the digestive system of a wild cat, to be ground up for coffee. You guys will drink anything! No way you could convice me to drink anything that has been pooped out of something!! Sorry!

How about drinking pee. I've heard a group of old people, their ages ranging from 70 to 90 years old, boasting that their key to long life is drinking the fresh urine (the first pee in the morning after they wake up) of their healthy grandchildren. They say that the urine still has the ingredient that the body used to fight diseases and maintain its health. lol, this is true.
