My son is ADHD, and I am always worried that people look down on me because he is on the meds. I think because I do beleive that it's an epidemic. Everyones hollaring ADHD as soon as they can't control their kids, and the teachers recommend it all the time!

My son is very hyper and has trouble focusing. We are fighting the ADHD lable as hard as we can. We are trying to change our diets and habits to see if it helps first. I dont have a problem giving him the meds he needs if he really needs them. I am surprised how as soon as my kid acts like a kid some one is trying to medicate him.
We are looking into things a bit before we start popping pills for him. Me on the other hand, I could use a pill or too to help me handle it... JK.

What people need to understand is that ADHD is a real disease and it is also a learning disorder. Left untreated, people with ADHD will not have a normal life. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 18 years old, and my peers looked down on me because they thought it was just an excuse for my behavior and my grades that had slipped. I was a straight-A student through my junior year, but was one of those kids who never had to study. My senior year, I took all AP classes and for the first time in my life I was forced to study and couldn't do it nor did I know how. It was then that I was diagnosed; it is also rare for girls to have ADHD as severe as I do. I was also ridiculed and called anorexic by my so-called friends for an entire year due to the initial weight loss I experienced from the meds (I take 90mg Concerta). I think people need to take the time to actually learn what ADHD is before they label any "hyper" or over active children as ADHD.
