I have been told by a few people that some doctors are saying it is ok to have a drink once in a while when you are pregnant. I am shocked that a doctor would say this! My husband works with a woman that is pregnant and still goes out to bars and drinks, because her doctor says its ok to have one drink. Then one drink turned to two, then three for this girl. Now she is almost due and just starting to show. She thinks its still ok to go out every weekend.
I get so upset whenever my husband tells me she went out and drank. I told him to stop telling me. It's not my child, but I get upset. I think my emotions are still a little sensitive from having my child. And she thinks it's ok just because her doctor said she can have one drink a day. Have you ever heard such a thing? What about fetal alcohol syndrome? I was always told by doctors that even one drink gets your baby drunk and is very bad for development.

I had heard something like that, that it is ok to have the occasional drink while pregnant. I've also noticed that opinions of different health professionals always seem to vary. The problem with some is that the 'occasional' drink is the hard part, and often they smoke as well. When my wife was pregnant with our son, we didn't want to add any extra risk factors, thinking we were only probably be going to have the one child, so she didn't drink, and quit smoking!

I know what you mean. There are so many other things to worry about when you are pregnant. Are you eating enough? Is the baby getting enough food? Am I eating enough vegitables? Is my heart beating too fast? Does this cause his heart to beat too fast? and so on... When in there should you worry about drinking.

That is beyond horrible!! I can't imagine putting your unborn baby at risk like that just so you can let lose and have drink, which like you said lead to two, then three then four. I think that is horrible and I sure wouldn't want to hear about it either! I have a close friend that did drink while she was pregnent (I didn't talk to her at the time but she said she was sure stressed so she drank to calm down) and her little girl has all kinds of problems. Not to be mean but she doesn't look normal and she is really small for her age, enough for the doctors to be concerned but she doesn't care because she can't afford to pay for any tests to see if anything if wrong with her little girl. I don't agree with drinking while you are pregnant at all, I think it is a terrible thing to do!

That is so sad for the little girl. Oh, and by the way, she wasn't stressed at work, which is one reason alot of people are mentioning on here. She is in the military. But when you are in the military and become pregnant, they move you to a safer job. All she does is sit around all day and talk to the other pregnant women. So it wasn't stress that caused her to drink. Thanks for the reply

I'm not that sure that the doctor say that she can have one drink a day. It's ok to have one drink once in a while, but it,s better to take nothing at all. I'M 3month 1/2 pregnant and I think I had only one drink during that period. And I my glasses was only at the half.
This moment is really crazy. I have a friend that her mother drank during her whole pregnancy and because of that she had problem with her kidneys since she was young.

When you are creating a new human being you should give him/her the best environment you can. Drinking would not be it. She could cause harm to her unborn child. Why would she do this?

There is more to it in just a drink every once in awhile. What the mom eats or drinks so does the baby. Now what would happen if you give A drink to a under age person. You would go to jail. So I think If a mom drinks while carring a baby there should be the same punishment. You are giving the under age baby a drink. there is not any differance.
