Do you use walnuts or raisins in your homemade oatmeal cookies?

I've been thinking about baking a batch of homemade oatmeal cookies lately. But, I haven't decided what I want to put in them. Sure you have all the basic ingredients that have to go into the cookies, like oats, sugar, etc. But, then there's a wide range of other things you can add like raisins or nuts. And, I was wondering how walnut pieces would taste in oatmeal cookies. I love the flavor of walnuts, but like pecans as well. I'm not sure which one would taste better. Which one would you use in your homemade oatmeal cookie recipe? Or, what extras would you add if you were baking cookies?

I use raisins in my oatmeal cookies. A trick my grandma taught me when making them is to soak the raisins in water for about 20 minutes then drain them well before adding them to your cookies. They plump up and make the cookies softer.

I usually use walnuts if I put nuts in my oatmeal cookies. I will use dried fruit of any kind, dried cranberries are good. So are dried apricots. I have used applesauce instead of part of the oil, and I have used chunks of apple in them. Just whatever is on hand at the moment I am putting them together.

I use walnuts, pecans or almonds. I really dislike raisins, I don't like the flavor, the shape or the texture of them. Maybe I had a tramatic raisin incident in my childhoo and I've blocked it out...

I have never made oatmeal cookies. I am finally getting to where I can bake some sweet things without ruining them, but it's taken me a LONG time to get here. lol I think if I was going to make oatmeal cookies, I would probably put raisins and walnuts in them. That sounds good. I might make some sometime, but probably not anytime soon. We are making Halloween cookies and cupcakes this week and next week for the playgroup and a few other people. I think that will be enough baking for me for now. :)

...Once raisins are cooked, I cannot eat them. Yuck! They are squishy. ...I make an everything cookie with oatmeal, peanut butter and a few chocolate chips. You can reduce or sub the butter for the peanut butter. Use whole wheat and have a high fiber, lower fat cookie. ...Not telling what my secret ingredient is that makes them moist and chewy. You'll have to guess. ...Enjoy and peace be with you. =(^;^)= Della
