How many packets of cocoa do you use in each cup?

Do you use more than one packet of instant cocoa mix in your cup? Does it taste better when you do? Do you find that your cocoa tastes plain when you only use one packet of instant cocoa?
Try as I might, I can never get a good tasting cup of cocoa, from just one packet. Most times I have to use at least two packets, when making instant cocoa. Otherwise my cocoa tastes plain like water. And, if I do use one packet, then I only get to use an inch or two of hot water.
When did making instant cocoa become such a hassle? I can remember having this stuff when I grew up, but we got it in the cannister, so that you could measure out precisely the amount that you wanted. Now, they are limiting you with those convenient envelope packets. Personally, I think it's a rip-off.
Just another way for food companies to cut costs while selling consumers on the idea of convenience and cost saving. How am I saving money, when I have to use two or three packets to get the chocolate flavor I want in my cup of cocoa?

OMG mint syrup is soooo good with hot cocoa. When I was in high school my friends and I used to make hot cocoa and dip into the creme de minthe and pour a little in. It was so yummy.
And now that I've actually admitted that fact in print for all the internet to see, it sounds so lame. LOL

True! I've got worse things I could admit now but back in high school that was the wildest craziest thing I did. What a boring kid I was!

I usually one use one. One packet of cocoa usually makes a nice tasting cup of hot chocolate for me. I have issues whenever I have a spoon and I'm able to dip the cocoa into the cup. The amount they tell you to put into the cup never makes a nice tasting cup for me, so I end up doubling the amount they say because the stuff just tastes horrible if I don't.

I usually use two packets but my mug is really huge. I used to have the same problem where it just looked like I was drinking dirty water and it didn't taste very good. So I once carefully measured the water to test it out (I think my packets say to use 6 ounces) and it was hardly any water so that must be the problem. It didn't even fill my mug half way. So now I use 12 oz of water and and two packets.
I think part of it too is that when I was a kid I remember making hot cocoa with milk and not water so it was much richer and tastier I als remember the canister method too where you just scooped out as much as you wanted or needed.
Maybe instead of using more than one packet you could squeeze a bit of Hershey's syrup in there to make it a bit more chocolatey?

I make mine with less water and one and a half packets of hot cocoa when I am using the microwave. Then I add milk and microwave some more because I like mine really really hot!
If I use the stove, I use two packets of cocoa, water, melted Hershey bar and vanilla ice cream. It is rich and soooo good! I only do this when I am making hot cocoa for both me and my husband though.

Yep, I agree totally, I use at least two packets to make my cocoa, but I also use milk instead of water. It gives the cocoa a much richer flavor, instead of the watered down taste. As for it being a rip-off, I don't think so, considering you get like 12 packets in a box for a buck. Not too bad.

I usually use 2 packets. If you look on the directions, it is for a little cup. I think they just keep making things littler all the time and you really have to pay attention. They make more money that way.

Wow—I use only 1 packet- but I stick with Swiss Miss or carnation brands. I find the other brands of cocoa are not as tasty-
There is an amount of water you are supposed to use. I don’t like super chocolately hot cocoa- so one is enough for me. You should buy it in the canisters, they still sell them- that way you’d be getting better cocoa for your tasting and not using 2 packages. Or even purchase nesquick- I like this made with milk (warm).

BeautyQueen, I always use 2 packets for a cup of cocoa, but my coffee mugs are like 10 oz cups and the directions usually for 6 oz if I remember correctly. But you are so right its so much cheaper to use canned coco and add your own sugar and flavorings. Besides being cheaper my kids always think thats a very big treat to have a real cup of hot chocolate.

We still just buy it in the canister. :) I'm not sure how much I use. I don't make it very often anyway, though. I don't really drink much hot stuff. Only if it is REALLY cold and I've been outside (I'm talking at least -20 degrees!) shoveling snow or something.
When I was younger, I used the packets, and one was usually enough for me. I guess I don't like it with nearly as much chocolate as you like. :)

I never have liked any of those envelopes that call for water. I usually use milk and I almost always add a little vanilla to it. Adding water always just made it taste watery to me (I know, but I am serious!) To me cocoa is made with milk!

I am weird. I don't much like chocolate but like cocoa so I use half of a packet per cup. Everyone says I am drinking brown hot water but it tastes just chocolately enough but not too much so.
I won't drink it at all if it has those little hard marshmallows in it. Ew.

I usually use 1.5 packets per mug of cocoa. What I find to be especially nice is to add a flavored cream in with my hot chocolate. You can buy the International Delights in tons of flavors. The Irish Cream and French Vanilla are two of my favorites to add to cocoa.

Like you I hate being ripped off it sucks.. And yes I think it is a way for the companies to rip you off.
I use three packets in one of the tall coffee cups, it is the only way that it tastes good to me. TY
