Are you one of those who do several different things while you driving? A couple of years ago my sister in law called me and was reading a recipe to me....while she was driving down the interstate in Mpls. Minnesota. I told her I didn't need the recipe that bad and she said she didn't mind reading it to me......okay. she was driving....talking on the phone...reading..yikes. She was very lucky not to crash into anyone while she did it. She also told me that she does it all the time. I on the other hand..can't multi task while I drive. I must not be that coordinated...when in reality I don't want to be. Do you talk on the phone....eat ......or other things while you drive?

No, it is too important to have your full attention on what is happening around you. The most that I will do is listen to the radio, maybe talk a little if I have passengers and, on a long trip carefully take a drink of water while being extra sure to watch what is going on. Some people are just crazy for doing some of the things they do while driving. When I was a kid, a long time ago, my mother and I were in a car with a friend of hers who took her girtle off while driving. Fortunately she did not have a wreck. A friend of mine in high school did have a wreck when he reached for his books that had slid off the seat.

My son also did the same as your friend. He dropped something on the floor and rear ended another car! I can't imagine someone taking off a gridle though, even to try to remove your coat is too hard while driving! THanks for sharing!

That's dangerous and illegal here in our country. That's really dangerous too. The person driving must be focused and not attempt anything that could ruin his life or his passenger's life. Regardless how long your sister-in-law may have been doing that, she should remember that there will always be a first time and the first time could be the last. Good luck! Hope she'd heed the warning.

It's illegal here too to be doing what she was....if you need to talk on the phone you are supposed to pull over! It's too dangerous!

It's also illegal in my place to do some other thing while driving, even talking with the passenger is forbiden. The first day I come to USA this time, my colleague here picked me up and join the conference meeting while driving, I am so scared and think it's unbelievable. But it's normal in USA as the road is much wider than the one in my country.

The only thing I really do when I'm driving is talk or mess with the radio. I don't want to put myself into unsafe situations by simply not paying attention. I mean, it's just really not a good idea. I think I've only done something else that's really taken my distraction away from the road a few times and that was when I was reaching for my cellphone. However, I try to not do that anymore.

I do talk on the phone while driving...but I have a "blue tooth" headset that allows me to talk and not take my hands off of the wheel. It is dangerous to talk while driving and if I do...it's very short...if I don't have my earphone hooked on my ear. Any trips I take I always put it on my ear...just in case I get a call. I do talk to my passenger while I drive but I don't read anything...that means the eyes off the road.

Right. It's too distracting to me to talk on the phone. I do talk to the passengers but I have never...and will never try to read while driving!

Oh my! I like to concentrate on the road when I'm driving, so I don't do other tasks at the same time. I like to keep 100% of my focus on the cars around me - I don't want to get into an accident!

So true. There is so much going on I don't know how she could concentrate on driving. I was scared for her myself just being on the other end of the phone!

I used to do a lot of stuff while I drove. I used to text and read the mail, and look up stuff in a book for school, and then talk on the phone sometimes, and all kinds of other things. Now all I really do is eat, and do some texting.

I'm not one of those people but my boyfriend is. Mike will mes with his car and stereo while he's driving. I don't kow how many times I've screamed "car!!!!" at him when he's swirved in the middle of the road because he can't get his music to sound just right. Also when he's bored he'll drive with his legs which causes him to go almost off the road. Most of the time I'll grab the steering wheel and drive for him.
