Swearing in Eastenders

September 16, 2007 7:48am CST
Has anyone else noticed that lately mild swearing has gradually been introduced. It started a few months ago with the word 'git' and then came the odd bugger and sod and the other day I heard 'bleeding'. It doesn't bother me because that's how people in the Eastend would talk but it just made me smile to hear it.

I would actually call these swear words but yes I have noticed that lately they have been a little loose on there words, but it's only what you hear in everyday life.

Yes that right, that is everyday life swearing. It just made me laugh that in the 22 years Eastenders has been going, they have only just decided to give it a go

I don't think it was allowed before, especially on the type of show and being on the time it is but it seems swearing is being more generally accepted now anyway so they can get away with it.

I am quite familiar with British slang, but these words doesn't seem to be swear words to me. I mean, I've heard the words git, sod and bugger on other programs and didn't think twice.

I have been noticing that for a while. I think they were saying things like "bleeding" and, I'm sure I have heard "bloody" (but that might have been in Neighbours because I know they say it on that!) I don't mind mild swearing especially because, as you say, people would say those words. I'm sure people in the East end and many other places would use far worse swear words but it's too unrealistic for them to never use anything even if they made up a word to suggest swearing. Whatever people might think about swearing, it is something that happens and it is just silly to not expect it - although I would draw the line if they started using the f word!

I know am a bit off topic here, but to me Eastenders is overhyped i think Doctors is a far better show.
