The best dog I have ever had with children was a cross bred dog called K9.
You can read my article about K9 by going to my cp page at http://www.associated content.com/lindacorby along with many other aticles about my animals. Just scroll down the list there.
At the end of the day it doesn't much matter what breed of dog you chose, because if you give love you get it back, so loving training is the answer my friend.

We've always had good luck with all our dogs, but most of them were mutts when my kids were little. I've always heard that any of the herding dogs were good with kids, and labrodors, retrievers, etc. Right now we have miniature dachshunds. One of my dogs would be good with small children, while the other two are better with adults. You have to remember that dogs are also individuals. I work at the local SPCA, and worked with a pit bull today that was just the most loving, sweetest dog I had seen in a long time. So try to pick the dog, and not the breed. Visit your local animal shelter, SPCA, or rescue group. You can probably find a great dog that needs a home.

My family has always had good luck with beagles and we have quite a few kids around. For some reason they seem to be very gentle on the most part and get along great with kids. I've never known one to have problems with any kids but it could depend on the dog or the kids!
