Our friends got a new Pit bull puppy. She is just the cutest thing! She is only 4 weeks and they brought her home already!! They are feeding her canned dog food and whole milk!! Thats not good for her. She should have her moms milk for another 2 weeks and then start on soild foods. I tried to tell them but they dont want to her it. She says well I wanted her and didnt want to wait. We have had puppies before and we know what were doing. Apperantly NOT!! I just feel bad. The puppy does this howl whine noise like its looking for its mom. It tries to nurse from my dog. I cant believe people can be so ignorent about things!!

Thats digusting the poor little thing should be with its mum til its 8 weeks! It shouldn't even be having normal milk as dogs are actually lactose intolerant, yeah I know we all give them milk,I used to as well, till mine started bleeding from his rear, thats when I found out they shouldn't have our milk.Apparently cats are the same thats why you get proper cat milk these days.Your friend sound a selfish s**t.I'm sorry for putting it so harshly but the pups welfare should come above her selfish"I want a new Toy" attitude.A genuine dog lover would hold off for a few weeks and reserve the pup until it was old enough.I'd have to seriously get mad with someone who behaved so appallingly towards a poor little creature thats only been alive for 4 weeks. It needs its mums milk to be a healthy balanded adult. This is the time it should be learning its dog behaviour from its mum and siblings!!!GOD I'M SO ANGRY...These type of people shouln't be allowed to have pets they haven't got the good grace to wait 2 weeks to give it a decent start..What about when its a year old torn up the house and cr****d on the floor.Get rid of it? Couldn't wait long enough to train it,it must be a bad dog!!!I can hear it now!!!

I agree with all of you. She is very selfish. She is the type to say I want it and she gets it or she raises hell. Shes only 19 but needs to grow up some!! Poor puppy. I hope I can convince her to do the right thing for her. I also hope when she goes to the vet the vet tells them whats up and they listen.

You know, I was just having a similiar complaint the other day because I stray cat ended up on my back deck. The poor thing was so tiny. i thought she was a kitten, or very young-- but she ended up being a little older (I'm guessing) because you could tell SHE had recently had kittens. Her nipples were very saggy. Anyway, she was the nicest cat ever! We have a lot of strays in our neighborhood, and normally they always run away when the see people. This cat the other day, JUMPED UP on my lap when i was sitting on my deck and she was begging for love. I ended up giving her some water. If I didn't already have 3 cats, i would have taken her in, she was just so loveable. I told my husband that if she came back the next day, I would find a home for her. She didnt' come back though :(
I was just so sad and upset that people let their animals run the roads. She looked so malnourished. She had no collar, and obviously was not fixed. Obviously whoever her owner was, probably couldn't tolerate her going into heat, so dumped her outside and then she had kittens. I just hope she found her way back home and her owners brought her back in. If I ever see her again, I'm going to take her somewhere that shey will be loved and not negelected.

hello there my friend,i cant believe they took her home that soon, its so sad because shes needs her mommy for about another 2 weeks, that 2 weeks can make a huge difference on a puppy.and the food and milk that they are giving is gonna make the puppy sick and have lots of dirrea, but you know people like that are just impatient and dont deserve to have this puppy.god forbid if the puppy gets sick and then they have to pay for the vet bill, well i just feel like taking the puppy away from them and giving her back to her mommy.hugs.pattie

There seems to be a lot of this going on lately! I recently lost a baby cockatiel because the guy I got her from wasn't feeding her and had the nerve to sell her to me when she couldn't even eat bird seed yet...long story. I think people are more into making money for selling these poor animals. I'm happy that my new pup is 6 months old and looks very healthy. I'm sorry that your friend got into this situation. I hope it works out for her in the end.

Wow that is sad. The puppy we are getting is a little over 6 weeks old, but eating puppy chow on her own. I think they have been doing that about a week now. There are 4 puppies total and none of them are nursing anymore. The mom dog is starting to get annoyed by the puppies-- I guess because they are so active now and jumping all over her and around. She is an older dog, so I guess she doesn't want to play with them, like they want to play. We thought we wouldn't be getting her for another 2 weeks or so, but we found out tonight they are all ready now.
I'm wondering if the puppy your friend got is still wanting her momma since she is howling and whining like you say. Luckily, the puppy we are getting isn't trying to nurse anymore, or the other puppies either.
I hope the little puppy your friend has will be okay. I didn't think you could give dogs whole milk? I had a kitten that we found at 2 weeks (my big boy Smeegle now) and he had no mother. i bottle fed him, but it was with cat formula that I had to mix up. I wonder if they should be giving the puppy that instead of whole milk.

I know its so sad. She should be getting moms milk but if not then she should have milk replacement for puppies. Its just like moms milk. They cant have whole milk its not good for them. They cant digest it. I hope she realizes what shes doing to it.
We are also getting a new pup who is now 9 weeks. She got her first shots today and can eat solid food. She is ready to come home.

That's great that you are getting a puppy! My puppy is about 8 weeks old now, and we have had her almost 2 weeks. She is doing really good! She has already had her first shots, and a worm treatment. She goes back next week for her second shot. She has grown a good bit since we got her, and she eats very well.

Poor little thing. You are absolutely correct in what you say. The puppy will most probably survive, but will never be as healthy as if she'd had her mom's milk. It carries mecessary nutrients and antibodies that cow's milk does not. Also she is not old enough for her body to properly use the nutrition from dog food. And the tendency to suckle will probably be with her for life. The whine most likely comes not only from wish for her mom's presence, but very probably from stomach pain from the diet. Unfortunately, may people are ignorant of such things and see only their own selfish desires, not the needs of the animal. There is, unfortunately, nothing you can do about it. Try to take a little comfort in the idea that she is, at least not abandoned nor purposely abused, as so many little puppies and kittens are.

Thats just as bad as not feeding the dog. He needs attention and love. Poor guy. I just found out they took the puppy to the vet and it has a tape worm!!! They gave me a bull sh** story about how it got it. If they would have taken care of it properly it wouldnt have happened!

I know how you feel. It hurts to see such things. I have a neighbor who has a very sweet dog, kept very well and fed, but the guy never spends any time with the dog. Poor thing, when I go to visit, he runs and gets his toy then runs back to me with the saddest "please play with me" look in his eyes. He is just plain lonesome. I try to go to see him (I'll viisit the man to see the dog) twice or three times a week then play with the dog for 20-30 minutes. He just shakes all over when he sees me he is so excited. I could just kick his master. But the guy has a nice house for the dog, food and water always, the dog sees a vet regularly, all the things that make him 'not' neglected, except the friendship and company he needs. Like you, it frustrates the heck out of me.

If the puppy survives from lack of proper nutrition, it's going to have a lot of behavioural problems in the future. Puppies learn a ton of stuff from their litter mates from 5-8 weeks of age, without learning, the dog will end up being a mess. The buyers and breeder are completely irresponsible. Sounds like a puppy mill if they couldn't care less if the puppy is ok. So, the puppy went out with no shots, no papers, no deworming, nothing. People like those shouldn't own an animal. It makes me so angry. Especially a pit bull puppy.....wish them luck, they're gonna need it. But, it'll probably end up abandoned, or in a shelter or rescue, because they don't have a clue.

Believe it, you are witnessing it first hand.
Encourage them to take the puppy to the vet, you can tell them it is to 'ensure they have a healthy puppy' - you know, no worms or things and it gets it shots. The vet can tell them what to do.
Always remember - ignorance is like the universe, it knows no bounds!

Apparently they don't know anything about puppies..This pup should be with its mommy..I am saddened to hear that the people who got her don't seem to care...If they knew anything, first and foremost the pup needs to nurse for at least 2 maybe 4 more weeks...She will get sick on the whole milk and canned food is gross...I am not a dog expert but this is not good...How sad...They are not good pet owners...I am so angry right now and just want to give the little one tons of hugs, and take her back to her mommy....

No they dont! I want to take her too. It breaks my heart that she couldnt wait 2-3 more weeks!!. Plus they work all day and the pup will be home all alone with no potty breaks. Which means she will be going on the floor. UGGGG!!!! Stupid People annoy me!!

Poor baby. I can't beleive that! They should really do a little 'research' before they just start feeding a puppy. Also, I think some breeders just need to be shut down. They should do things the way they are supposed to be done, making sure the dog is old enough should be a no brainer! Of course I know a lot ofthem only care about the money and nothing else.

I know. Unfortunatly they didnt get it from a breeder. Just a friends whos dog had puppies. Its so sad for this little girl. She will never have the proper nutrition she needs! They just wanted it because its a pitt. Plain and simple.
