When I am feeling low and depressed, I eat more than I should. I eat my comfort foods and try to munch them and in that way I feel relieved.

I CAN'T eat when I am stressed. Along with my fibromyalgia I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The stomach is a second brain so when I am stressed out, I am usually spending a lot of time in the washroom. So I really can't eat anything when I am in that condition. I could try but I would just get cramps and go running again.

I truly feel that if one is really depressed or burdened with so much problems, he/she could either entirely forget about eating or easily overeat. In my particular case, though, I must say that like you, I tend to engage in emotional eating to, in a way, somehow ease the heavy feeling that I have to contend with. In a sense, emotional eating somewhat serves as a sort of respite or relief from my problems, albeit quite fleeting, and I must admit that it oftentimes does the trick. Nevertheless, emotional eating or its converse is obviously not the correct response or medically sound answer to your problems, to be sure, naturally since not eating at all or excessive eating both have negative health implications. In the end, though emotional overeating or not eating could perhaps actually serve as coping mechanisms of a troubled individual, to my mind, it should not be resorted to, especially considering its real health repercussions, if there are many healthier alternatives to easily choose from, which could effectively combat one's nagging feeling of stress or depression, anyway.

When I am stressed, I tend to eat less ! I just can't seem to build up any desire to eat. If I do eat I usually end up feeling sick after.
