Kathy Griffin's Remarks

As reported on Matt Drudge's show, Kathy Griffin has announced that the Emmy is her god. I know that portion of her acceptance was cut out, but, as usual, Drudge had it all on tape. I think it was very irreverent of her to say what she did. She did not have to thank God for obtaining the award, but it would have been more seemly if she had left that part out of the speech.

i can totally understand why her comments upset ppl, however i am one of the ppl who found what she had to say friggin hilarious!!
in all honesty it was HER that did all the work to get where she is today. sure sure ppl will say god gifted her or whatever..but WHY would anyone say that? what would the point of god taking a special interest in Kathy Griffin be? i dont necessarily believe in god, but for "heavens sake" IF he is there, i sure hope he has far more important things to pay attention to than a silly tv show..even BB8 (lmao)
believers will of course find what she said offensive..but i dont think she said it to piss ppl off..just to make the point that she was the one doing the hard work and she didnt want to give the usualy cliche of an acceptance speech.
of course..a decent amount of controvery is what fuels her career..so did you really expect anything less?

That remark was totally uncalled for... good thing it was cut out... it would have given the wrong impression on younger viewers who might think that statue worship is a good thing... and that religion is worthless... Kathy Griffin should think first before making such an announcement...

I feel the same, aseretdd. I wonder what some of the celebrities could possibly have on their minds sometimes.

I didn't watch the Emmy's and I don't read the Drudge report so maybe I shouldn't say anything but, she is a comedian and I'm sure she meant her remarks to be funny. If other winners came onto the stage and thanked God for their award it could be Kathy was poking fun at them for that because I don't think God really cares who wins an Emmy or an Oscar or a game or who wins anything! We can thank God for watching over an event and keeping it safe, but if someone is not religious then that's OK, too. I guess I'm trying to say that no one should necessarily be offended, if someone thanks God someone who isn't religious shouldn't be "offended" and if someone makes a silly joke, possibly making fun either of how seriously some take these awards or of those who thank God for them, well a religious person needn't take offense at that either. Like I said, I didn't see it so if there was more to it than what meets the eye I hope you're not offended! Whooo, I hope I got all that right...LOL

I appreciate hearing your views, anniepa, however, in light of the fact that the majority of people in the world are Christians, she should have never risked offending anyone with her callous remarks. There is still such a thing as crossing the line, and I cannot repeat often enough: Good taste never goes out of style. If I were not a believer, then I would have made no reference to a higher power at all.

Her career is built on this type of publicity, the very kind we are giving her right now. She says over the top, irreverent things in order to get noticed and be talked about. She knows exactly what she is doing and she does it well. We should at least give her credit for that whether we like her or not. Some people love it and other people will talk about it because it irks them.

I didn't post this discussion to give her any publicity, makingpots, since her remarks have already given her much of that. As for how well she plies her trade, I have not noticed anything memorable that she has done. I don't go along with the theory that anything goes as long as you achieve your goals in the end.

I don't adhere to that theory either, worldwise1, though my poorly worded response can be taken that way. I did not hear her remarks and had only briefly heard about them before responding to your discussion. I perhaps should have passed this discussion over.

I should add. I am not a fan at all. She annoys me, but she sure knows what she is doing.

I find it funny how we as a society cannot take a joke. I was watching a news report on tv that had a man go as far as to say she had offended every catholic. ha funny. I am a catholic and I'm not offended. Actually quite amused.
At every awards show, football etc. we have people thanking god for something. When obviously god doesn't take sides or bets on who is going to win the super bowl. I just think we are silly. We cannot take a joke. I don't feel it was the smartest thing to say, but it was simply a joke.

I find it even funnier how we can change the opinion depending on who made the remark. I am NOT a silly person and I was offended by her remarks. She is vulgar and has no real talent to thank God or anyone for. If what she said was meant to be a joke, it was in the poorest of taste. Idolatry is a sin.
