This is an update for all you ladies that had tried to give me suggestions on what to do with my period problems a couple months ago. I finally went back to the doctors last friday about it. He now wants me to go to the hospital this friday and get some testing done. He wants to get my thyroid checked so I'll be having some blood drawn, and he wants to check my fallopian tubes, ovaries, and uterus... so I will be having a sonogram done. I must say, I'm pretty nervous about it all. I think he came to this conclusion because this is the second appointment ive had with him where hes done a physical exam and tapped on my lower abdomin and it was a little painful. I just hope its nothing serious.
So, with this stress, plus everyday stressors, plus having to worry about paying for my husband's dental work for the last month, and now these hospital bills, and whatever else is going to be thrown our way, its safe to say, im stressed out. Good news is I was finally able to get in touch with my husbands insurance company! I now have a member number, and they said I can print out temp cards until I get the real ones in the mail! WHEW! Thats a load off my shoulders already! Now, if only I could get my son under control, and get past these tests... life would be easier hehe.
Thank you all for listening, and giving me support, suggestions, and well... just being there! You all are the best!Dawn

Hi Dawn :) I went to your profile to find the original discussion you were mentioning. I never give medical advice because I'm not a professional but I'm certainly willing to share my personal experience with you.
My children are older than yours but I also had a tubal ligation (mine was done when I was 30 and I just turned 43 last week). Anyway, my periods got increasingly heavy and my OBGYN told me that heavier periods and also migraines can be a "side effect" of having a tubal. No one told me that before I had the surgery ;)
Anyway, last year, my menstrual cycle got to be a lot like yours... very heavy and seemed never-ending. I'd think I was finished and, within a week, I started all over again. It wore me right out! Not to mention the effects it had on intimacy! YEESH!!
My present doctor prescribed a pill that I had to take for five days. It's basically like having a chemical D&C. For those five days, things were pretty intense. After I was done, I returned to having a more normal, once a month cycle. I also had an ultrasound, blood tests, etc. I have hypertension which was thought to also contribute to the heavier bleeding. In any case, nothing was found to be wrong. My doctor says if I return to the never-ending cycle, we will do the med treatment again. She feels, at my age and given all my test results, that this is the right avenue for me.
I hope that all of your tests come out well and that they find a solution that works for you too. I admit that I got to the point that I was afraid to even leave the house some days!

Hello,
Thank you both for your words. My doctor put me on a hormonal pill (i cant remember the name of it off the top of my head) I was supposed to take it for 10 days, and it was supposed to equal out my periods. Instead, they still lasted just as long, but instead... they got a lot heavier. I am completely drained. Especially today since the kids woke up a couple times last night, and then woke up for the day this morning at 430. My son did take a nap again around 8am but I didnt get to. So, I just know im going to be exhausted by this evening.

Hi there. Well I did not see your original discussion, so I just went to check it out. Sounds to me like you have some big hormonal imbalance, that is causing you to have too much oestrogen in your body, and that is causing the excessive bleeding. I had a lot of problems like that a couple of years ago - excessive bleeding and very long, heavy periods that left me feeling weak and exhausted. Because of my age, I just ignored it for a while, and put it down to the peri-menopause, which is the normal age for experiencing problems like this, but after I had one that lasted for 2 months and left me too weak to go to work, I went straight to the Doctor. Luckily I live in the UK where all medical treatment is free. They gave me progesterone pills straightaway to stop the bleeding, and some iron pills, and then I had tests and ultra sound scans. Because the lining of my womb was abnormally thick, they also did surgery just to take biopsies to eliminate any more serious causes. It is unlikely to be more serious at your age though. I researched a lot on the Net at the time, and the bleeding can also be caused by polyps or fibroids in the womb, which are easily removed, and usually caused by excess oestrogen as well. As for the thyroid tests - problems with the thyroid can cause bleeding in some women, and it is best to get this checked. I'm sure you will be fine though - try not to worry too much.

I hope you get everything sorted soon and the pain goes away. I had pain in my lower abdomen and it turned out I have pre-menstrual pain. My doctor gave me tablets and it worked.
I know its hard but try and not to stress out about too much. You don't want to make yourself feel ill worrying.
All the best Dawn with your situation and your home life.

i haven't read your original posting but i understand about having problems with a period. I have to take a large amount of narcotics to control the pain and have had to do so since i was 13. to date i have seen 37 specialists and as yet none of them have been able to figure out what is wrong. unfortunately i now have no other choice than to have a hysterectomy to deal with the problem as it interferes with my ability to care for my children. i wish you all the best and hope that you are able to find a solution.

I really and truly hope that your testing comes out ok. I am also having to deal with a lot of medical testing and bloodwork and such these days, along with my dog going blind from cataracts, I might have to put him down, because he is snapping at me and he can't hold his urine in for long periods of time, not to mention his arthritis and I desperately need to go back to work. I have a mysterious soft mass on the the top of my foot that I am getting results for today (I am very nervous). I dealt and am dealing with lice since Friday. My husband is in Iraq and I am dealing with all of this alone! I know how you feela bout stress and feeling like you are about to lose it. Just take it one day at a time, have faith and just keep chugging along. Eventually it will all pan out! My prayers are with you!
