it is said that taiwan is ready for join in the UN and independent from chinese mainland.chinese government has said that the war would break out if taiwan government do so. now both chinese mainland government and taiwan government are preparing for the war in the 2008.
the usa is concerned about this.they have increased the number of warplanes in Guam and Okinawa.it is known that all they are doing is preparing for the war that may happen.japan is concerning in their country. japan is the country who is most power in asia.as you know japan has aggression many countries but they don't admit it now.japan and usa is union.taiwan want to ask usa and japan to help him against chinese mainland in the war. is it possible that the war break out in 2008? i think it may not break out in 2008,but in later years.

I don't know how and where you got this news from, but I don't think war will erupt in 2008 for both of these countries. There are negotiation tables, to avoid war to the best one could. People now are more civilized, aware of what war causes. So I think this will not happen, China is the most powerful country in the whole Asia and maybe even the whole world. But I'm sure World Unions will do their best, for these war not to erupt and bing again drawbacks on those who will be affected by it..

You don't understand chinese,in the past one hundred years,we stand too much absement and we won't not stand it any more,if taiwan independence, and this war is not avoided, even it is in the time of 2008 olympics.Sometimes the develop of the war maybe out of us control too.and there is an old saying, even lose one thousand troops but not one inch soil.

That would be a shame. I have a lot of admireation for taiwan. I would think rather than trying to take control of taiwan, that china would study and learn from taiwan. They are a small nation that has garnered amazing success on it's own as a free market state. I think a country with the resources and population that china has could really benefit from duplicating taiwans modle. As far as war goes, I don't know how much help the U.S. could be, were pretty bogged down in ira and afganistan right now, though we do have a policy of defending taiwan so i guess we'll be there, don't know. I really don't have anything against china and our nations are pretty much getting along pretty well, so I hate to see a war break out between us.

Taiwan is separate from Mainland China, both are members of UN, US has an obligation to defend Taiwan. If mainland China want to take over Taiwan, the US will not interfere, too much trade with China, they own them too much money, Taiwan has no chance against the Red Army, surrender or be blown out of the water.
Japan will not attack China, too much to lose, trade, mere size of China, they tried once before in Manchuria, and did not suceed, Japan is on the edge of economic collapse. China and Russia have a pack, the US would be foolish to fight China, already US troops are stretched to the limit, so money will dictate who US will defend, it will be Red China.

We Filipinos are also concerned about this as Taiwan is a next-door neighbor.
May I suggest that a plebiscite be taken for the people of Taiwan to decide if they want to be independent or reunited with the mainland. The result should be respected by everybody for that is the will of the people, and they must be allowed to chart their own destiny.

i don't agree about that a plebiscite would be taken to decide whether they can be independent.all of chinese will be objct about the idear.if you can understand the body is unwilling to give up its arm which just want to leave away from it.there are a lots of factors basied the fact to affect the relationship.

If it does need a aplebiscite,it must not only including taiwan civilians but also the whole chinese, include the mainland, just taiwan civilians to decide it is lawless, this action doesn't consider the 1.3billion of the mainland chinese's notion, and i want to say it will lead to a very serious result, and the result maybe out of us control.

This is not the first time the DDP-government of President Chen Shui-bian has tried to stage a campaign for Taiwan to be admitted into the United Nations. Since March 2000 when President Chen was elected, he had initiated such a campaign in August 2001. Repeated efforts by Taiwan to join the UN under the name Republic of China had failed and it is probably expected that this attempt will fail as well. That's because Taiwan is only recognized by only 24 countries while China is recognized by 170 countries across the globe. UN resolutions accept that there exists only "one China", and that Taiwan is regarded as part of China. So Taiwan cannot qualify to join the UN as statehood is a requirement for countries to be admitted as members of the UN.
I don't think war will ever flare up between Taiwan and China, even though China has repeatedly made threats of war whenever Taiwan fuels talk of independence. Should war ever erupt between China and Taiwan, other surrounding nations will necessarily be drawn into the fray, including the US which supports the one-China policy but supplies arms to Taiwan, and this region can become a very dangerous place for the world. There is too much at stake for the whole world.
I believe if things worsen arising from what is taking place now in Taiwan towards independence, countries like the US, Japan, Korea and even the Asean nations will not sit idly by and let things escalate to a point where missiles start flying across the Taiwan Strait. So all these rhetoric and mass demonstrations about independence may all be what they are and nothing more. We will have to see how events play out in the coming days and weeks.
