Do You Have Enough Sleep?

How many hours do you sleep at night? Do you feel this is enough? I am no expert I just have read this from a book, that there are two phases of sleep: In the first hours of sleep, we have “deep sleep” which takes care of our physical fatigue. At the later part of our sleep, we have “dream sleep” (REM or Rapid Eye Movement sleep) which takes care of our mental fatigue. Meaning to say, that if we cut down on our sleep, we’ll notice that our body may be handling the strain but our mind and emotions and imagination are losing their sharpness and craving for rest.
So, how much sleep do we need? This depends from person to person. Some can get by with six hours and others function well if they get nine hours. You’ll have to find out this yourself and this usually changes as we age. I get mine for 8 hours and sometimes I do get by for four hours. I do sometimes take naps in case my body is yearning for more. So, how about you can you function well with less hours of sleep or need more to be productive throughout the day?

I get about 4-9 hours of sleep. I always wake up exhausted though and I think I figured out why. It could be due to my tossing and turning during the bad dreams, or even my active dreams (when I'm running, walking, ect.)

Yes I do get enough sleep required for the body. That way when one is near bed, One would like to lie down all the time. But from health point of view, over sleep is dangerous. Between 7 to 9 hours should alright, depending on the age of the person. I go for brisk walk 4-5 kms everyday and that keeps body tired in the evening and hence I get the sleep.

Hi ssh123! I agree with you friend. Everything should be done accordingly or in proper moderation as required. I do some brisk walking before myself but I just stopped doing that when my friend migrated to another country. I think I should start to do some walking again and doing that before I sleep will give me a good night rest. Thanks for your response. really appreciate it. Take care and have a nice day.

Lately I've been sleeping about 7 to almost 8 hours a night, but think I need to go back to sleeping only six. I thought I was doing myself a favor by sleeping what is considered the usual average, but I'm finding I feel MORE tired..I know that doesn't make sense, but I seem to have more energy with just six. Go figure

Sleeping is an important need for good health. Sleeping clean ups the brain and makes it again workable. The person who could not sleep well or could not complete his or her normal sleep time could not work well at day time. I learnt that a person with normal health should sleep 8 hours a day. 8 hours are an average time of sleeping. Some people sleep less than 8 hours and some sleep more than 8 hours. Less sleeping is not good for health and more sleeping than normal sleeping time is also harmful for health. We should sleep as much as the medical science recommends us. That is 8 hours or little above or little less.

dear faith...interesting discussion here...my sleep patterns is kinda out-of-wack as i work 5 days a week, but 2 of those work shifts are third shift and 3 are second shift...so my sleep patterns are all messed up...sometimes, i stay up for two days straight with no sleep and continue to work...when i move to canada in the spring, i don't want a job that has these split shifts, it cannot be good for my health...stanzi

Earlier i used to be too busy with my college work and usually i just sleep about four or five hours a day,so i use to have tiresome days, but i really had no way out.but now a days i am a bit more tension free and relaxed and usually i get atleast 7-8 hours sleep.sp now i dont have enough work load and that keeps me healthy through out the day and i get ample time to rest in th night.also during holidays,i go for a nap after my lunch and this spans for an hour or two.now a days as far as my sleep is concerned,i am very much satisfied.

I sleep about daily 5 to 6 hours.I go to bed as early as possible and wake at 4am.I think 5-6 hours of sleep is enough .If we sleep more and more,we will become more and more inactive and lazy.Sleeping more is not good for health.

Hi faith I only get around 5 hours of sleep during the night because Ive been waking up in pain. But in the afternoon I will take a nap to make up for the lost sleep. I use to get 8 hours asleep at night and that was a great thing. I hope after my surgery I can get back to normal again. Take care.

Dear friend,
I have started a discussion in this regard a few days back.. that " Too much of sleep is harmful- A study " If you have time just have a look at it.. ..
I used to sleep not less than 8 hours a day.. and may go upto 10 hours...My parents used to say that i have wasted nearly half of my life time in sleeping.. Ofcourse it is just a true. See.. I am now 36 years old.. Going by my parents calculation.. i have slept nearly 15 years of life.. oh god!
Happy mylotting..and Enjoy Peace Within..Have a Great Day..

I try myself to sleep more than eight hours a day as much as possible. In that manner, I will be able to regain enough energy on the following day.
There are times also where I only sleep five to six hours a day due to work-related issues.
Have a nice day and God speed!

Normally i have 6 to 7 hours, because i need wake up early to help my mum at hawker before i go to work on 8.30am.
Sometime i only have 5 hours if i go out to have a drink or watch movie with my friends. So next day i will feel tired and no energy to concentrate on my job. Then i will sleep more early on that night too.

i think i sleep more than 8 hours a day. most of the time, i feel i didnt get enough sleep and still feel tired. I just dont know why my body seems so heavy and hard to wake up even though i think i slept the whole night. I do get my daily naps, sometimes lasting for an hour. I just feel i need more sleep everyday. I really dont know why I feel so tired and sleepy even if i get enough rest for the night and have naps. I think I am getting oxygen deprived and my brain needs clean oxygen to make me feel revive everyday.

Hi kaban316! School can be very demanding especially if you are really serious about schooling. The good thing is your body can recharge and rest for a longer time on weekends. Just stay healthy and take care of yourself always. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day always. Good luck on your studies. :)

Hi sreejithsreenivas! Sorry for my late reply however, I appreciate your response to this discussion. You are right that sleeping too much is not good. I think anything that is too much is never good to us, everything should be in moderation. Have a nice day.

I sleep about 8 - 10 hours a night. I think I am getting too much sleep, because I always feel a bit lethargic.

I think we need minimum of 8 hour of sleep. But i usually sleep for 6-7 hour a day. That is not enough for me,i still feel tired after wake up. I think i should go to bed in a much earlier time on each night. Naughty me,always play game till very late. XD
