Last night we found 1 flea on Sigil. Neither cat is exhibiting signs of fleas. We did go to my MILs last night and she has a cat & a dog who we know get bitten by fleas (even with using the Advantage twice a month). So we could have brought the sucker home with us. Since they are indoor cats, we don't normally treat Sigil & Vanessa for fleas. I don't have time to bring the cats to the vet for Advantage. Is there an OTC flea medication that someone could recommend?

Fleas are nasty and dirty and usually if there is one there is more. I would suggest flea bombing you place however all animals need to be outside. I hope one of your friends can baby sit for the day. For Sigil and Vanessa you should be able to buy Advantage over the counter from your local vet or at your local pet shop. Please keep me posted on your little flea adventure!

I am going to petsmart this evening and figure out what to buy. We can bug or flea bomb as we are in an apartment. Plus we have other pets - fish and birds - that would be impacted by a bomb. I did flea comb them a little while ago and just found one more live flea on Sigil. So maybe it is not completely out of control yet!

Unfortunately flea bombing is impossible in your situation. No matter what time of the year it is having fleas in your house can be painful. If you are in Spring you might want to look get it under control before they breed like no ones business. Have you looked into natural products for the home and for your pets? The best thing to do first is to vacuum everyday and throw out your vacuum bags every week for a few weeks. Bye

I vacuum all the time. Between sinus problems, cat hair and dust we have to keep the place clean. We have birds so we can not use many products that go in the air. We are very limited by what we can do. Even some natural products will kill the birds. I went and bought some OTC flea medication last night (the Banfield vet was closed when I went to Petsmart and they don't sell Advatage/Frontline on the shelf). I did was both cats yesterday and after 24 hours of having the meds on them I am going to wash them again. Funny thing - seems like only 1 cat has the fleas. Hopefully the problem is resolved.

I have heard other people say that fleas are really bad this year. I like Advantage the best for our animals. It seems to work the best. We also use flea collars, but the puppy keeps chewing the cats off her neck. I hope you have all ready got it under control. Finding only two fleas sounds like you caught it early.

I was thinking about flea collars. I got some OTC stuff and I guess we will see if it works. I wanted to get the Advantage but by the time I made it over to Petsmart the Banfeild clinic was closed and they don't sell that stuff right off of the shelf (they really should. I still have only seen 1 other flea I combed them out again (avoiding the treatment area) and didn't see any more fleas, but there was some flea dirt. I guess this is what I get for not treating them since they are indoor cats.
