Which Digital Camera is best performing now?

I am looking to buy a digital camera for my personal use, not a costly one within 10K (INR). I have a 3MP digital camera of Kodak now, but now I want to buy about 6-7 mega pixel camera.
Some friends suggested Nikon L12 good going now, some said Sony cybershots, some insist on Olympus. I am too much confused to choose the better one and the best performing model. Anyone using Digital Camera or have some good idea of brands, please help me to choose one.

It is hard to say which is the best. I have a digital camera with the brand Canon made in Japan. I have been using it for as many as four years. I love my camera and I think that it is a good camera. The only thing I don't like the camera is the lens. It seems that it doesn't give as clear a view as Sony though the effect of the photos is as good. If I were to buy another one, I think that I would buy a Sony one.

I would suggest Nikon or Canon because they are really famous in making camera. Sony cybershots are nice looking but the picture qualities are not that great. My friend uses Kodak and I am using a Nikon, when we compare the pictures, we still think Nikon does a great job!
