Who wrote the Bible?

Recently, I brought home the video "The Greatest story ever told" which is a story of Jesus. I am not a Christian. So, after seeing it, I had some questions in my mind. I hope my Christian friends in mylot can enlighten me.
1. Who wrote the Bible? The story of Jesus that I saw never said anything about that.
2. I read somewhere that the Bible was written long after Jesus was resurrected. If so, who wrote it and how can you say that the Bible contains all the true account of Jesus. Anyone could have well made something up. Jesus seems to be a great man who can love all no matter what. I find some verses in the Bible very contradictory to His ideals and all that He lived upto.
3. I didn't find anything extraordinary about Jesus's disciples. True, some of them showed examplary devotion, which is very rare. So, what did they do while Jesus was being tried?
4. Why did Judas betray Jesus and then immolate himself? He could have just shut his mouth and said nothing at all to the Romans.
5. Where were all the thousands of people who listened to Jesus's sermons and believed He was the Messaih when He was tried and Pilate tried to let Him free with people's help?
I would like to insist here that I love Jesus and also, I do not want to insult other people's faith but just am curious to know the facts. Knowledgeable people kindly enlighten me.

Hi! The gospel accounts were written by four different men.. Two had been disciples of Jesus.. Matthew and Joh.. the other two gospels were written by Mark, a sort of secretary to Peter, who had been a disciple of Jesus, and Luke a Greek convert who was a doctor and also worked closely with Peter and the others.. It's believed Mark and Luke based their gospels mostly on interviews. Luke even starts out saying he gathered the information and wrote it down so people would know the truth of what had occurred. I believe it is John who wrote about how he was writing those things they had witnessed, and how they had handled (or touched) Him, with their own hands, after His resurrection. These gospel testimonies have been dated to have been written about 30 years after the events. The bible says the spirit of God helps/helped them write, as they were "inspired by God".
- The thing that strikes me the most is how the gospels agree in the overall story (and stories) but they differ in small details, like all eye witness accounts do. For instance in one account they return from a short journey "later that night" but in another version, it's said they returned "the next morning" - this to me jives true as to men's memories of things.. thirty years later. All these disciples, except one, were martyred. They would have given up by then had these events not so affected them!:)
- That Jesus actually lived and made some sort of impact, is very much historically documented. It's said his existence or life has been more documented historically (outside of the bible) than any other life. Archeology digs up lots of things too, which supports the bible.. cities previously thought mere fiction because they were 'only' in the bible.. etc..
- Some things in the bible do sound contradictory to God and Jesus' nature.. Israel was ordered to destroy some nations! completely! But what we don't realize is how very deeply embedded in those early (foundation of the world) countries was the practice of offering children alive in fire, to 'the gods'- some very bad stuff was the status quo. Also God was very strict with tiny Israel for the purpose of a place for the rescuer of the world to be born into.. Some other things in the bible which some think of as God doing, were not God at all, but human beings who did them..
- Why were there so few who stood with Jesus when He was accused? I imagine the pharisees, etc, would likely pad the crowd..?
..all the best!

Im not a christian and will be given you my point of veiw. I believe that yes they could of wrote the new testment years after jesus was born and I think they even have scientific proff not sure though. If you look through history man have always looked for gods in other people they though that Alexander the Great was the son of Zues, Buddha isnt looked at like a god but really close, and there is others too. So whos to say that they didnt do the same thing with Jesus it just stuck b/c the early day christians killed anyone that didnt agree with them. If you also look at history I think its a Egyptian tablet written years b4 Exodus is the same story of a guy named Noah that survived a flood that was in that area only. So does this mean that the bible copyed this story? makes you think. then there is the Egyptians who kept a log on EVERYTHING but there is nothing about slaves called hebrews in there history. So where does this story come from? If you look and some of the things that Jesus says and the things that Buddha says they are almost identical. hum. well then what about the books of the Bible that the early day christains deleted out of it b/c they didnt like the veiws or it made Jesus look more like a man? Why also did the early day christians burn any book that they did not agree with and spoke of free will? humm this all made me think hard about myself when I was a christain and that is why i follow my heart not the words of some man that could and could not of been telling the truth. I dont think God would condem me for using my own brain do you?

Of course, you have a right to your own opinion and so I don't think God would condemn you for using your own brain. He has given a brain for us to use after all.
Regarding Jesus and Buddha's views, I think it might be that both have the same opinion - nothing wrong with that, you know. Great souls think alike :-)
And I also have this notion that History keeps repeating itself. So, it is not necessary that the story of Jesus was copied from some where. I believe that a similar story(though not exactly similar) would have happened elsewhere in the world. Here I would say that I believe God loves everyone and everything in this world and He would have sent His messengers to all parts of the world. I don't believe there was or will be only one. Depending on the time, place and nature of the world, we will be sent new ones to take us on the path of truth.
Regarding the early Christian theory, I have no opinion on that because I have heard there were too many wars on religion, but I don't have the facts on them. So, I have no right to comment on them.
Whatever your opinion is, the one fact that matters is whatever religion it is that we follow or do not follow, a life is truly lived when it is of use to others and we are atleast somewhat satisfied with ourselves as a human being.

i didnt mean that it was written over and never really happend on the Jesus thing I meant that maybe thats why people thought he was the son of God b/c all through history ppl looked to man that did extrodnary things and considered them Gods. I agree with you on what you said on great minds think alike I prob should of put in there that the 33 years Jesus disappers from the Bible he was probaly traveling and learning from diffrent teachers all over the world (I dont know if this is true but you can tell from the child years of Jesus that he liked knowledge, ex. when he went to his fathers {god} house and was being taught by the preachers there) So I think some of his prophicies come from that. I also agree with you on saying that God has sent more than one prophicy to Enlighten us. This is a very touchy subject that will have very many diff veiws and I think that all those veiws have truth in them and no one person is right or wrong

I probably think the same too. In fact, I have seen a lot of discussions(not in mylot) that Jesus had been to Eastern lands to learn their philosophy. And to say the truth, some of this famous phrases do make me think that. I really don't know why nobody these days talks about those 33 years in Jesus' life.

Thanks Jesus777!! If I understood Jesus properly, He probably would love me just as He would anybody else, whatever I am, even if I am a sinner or a saint, even if I loved Him or not. God is perfect and shows no partiality whatsoever to anybody. For Him, gold and a stone are the same, He sees no difference. You are right... men can fail you but God never fails to help one who trusts Him!!
God Bless you and thanks for your response.
