Do you like horses?

family of horses - a family of horses outside enjoying the day
Netherlands
September 17, 2007 10:16pm CST
When I was in Amsterdam last Sunday, near the house of a friend of ours, who lives just outside the city - I saw a family of horses and was able to take a few shots of these. How many of you love horses, and know how to ride on, and have done it? I've never done it myself but would love to try it out some day soon:) TheFortunes

i like horses and love them, i ride them too whenever i can, i wish i had a good horse of my own, may be oneday. but there is one strange thing i have noticed about the horses i have ridden, almost all of them, the moment i am on them they become lazy and wont want to move, lol, at times their owners have been surprised. amazing. smiles, apple.

Hiya Apple, lol, it seems you are hipnotising the horses than :) and maybe you are a horse whisperer? And maybe you are so quit and in peace when sitting on the horses that while they feel your contentment they are becoming happy and lazy? Thanks for contributing my friend :) TheFortunes

I was a horse crazy kid - I have a pix of me on a spring horse as a small child. I grew up to be a horse crazy girl & just shy of 10 started riding. I rode thru college, jumped, even taught some in college. I'm still a horse crazy gal, tho I've blown thru 50 a few yrs back, I just can't afford to ride & fear my health isn't up to it either. Wish I could tho!

It really the health issues not the age. I have fibromyalgia, and severe allergies. Fibro is considered something of an autoimmune problem & because my allergies are always fired up, I have no where to go when I get sick or injured & it takes a long time to heal. I'm terribly afraid that if I were to break something I'd be forever healing that!

Hi ElicBxn, thank you for contributing in this discussion too :) And I think it's wonderful that you have had your fair share in horse riding. Who knows, maybe you are not too old on your 50 to ride still?

Horses are beautiful animals,my ex was so into them, and I spent so many boring hours at her barn waiting for her, that i avoid barns/horses like the plague, but on their own, they are quite majestic.Great pic!!!

I haven't ridden horses since I was a child. I'm a big guy now, so I wouldn't inflict my load on anything less than a shire-horse! I think they're very graceful animals though, and make some wonderful pictures. That must be why so many old paintings feature horses! Congratulations on a great picture.

Hi Rhinoboy, and thank you for your contribution in this discussion :) Are the shire horses heavily build? maybe you are not that heaby for a horse as you mightthink though, and you are so right about the paintings of horses, as horses are so graceful, and proud and beautiful animals. And thank you for liking the photo too :) TheFortunes

Me me me!!! =) I have ten horses, six Arabians, two Standardbreds and a Chechnyan mare. =) More is to come, because one mare is in foal and two will be bred in a few months time! I have adored horses all my life and couldn't imagine a life without them.

I can't ride a horse, & for many years I was a little afraid of them. However, my daughter, now 14 years, adores horses. She goes to riding lessons, every second week as I can't afford more. She is an excellent rider. At the end of last year she won the dressage test. This year she did a lesson on jumping, & the instructor said she was a natural.

Hi Jennybianca, and thank you for your responce in this discussion too :) Me too, I was afraid until my teens of horses, and don't know why really... But it must be nice to have a daughter which is a natural talent in it :) And I wish you the income so thatshe'll be able to ride and enjoy the sport, and maybe become a famous amazone one day :) TheFortunes

Hi - yes I love horses - I love all animals:-)) I used to ride a lot when I was at school, because I went to the kind of English Private School where everyone had ponies and horses, and rode regularly. I didn't have a horse of my own, but I used to use my friends and ride every weekend. I haven't done it much recently though. My partner is the real horse lover! He comes from Argentina, where everyone is into the sport of polo and rides a lot. He started riding wen he was about 3 years old! He absolutely adores horses and I'm sure he would have a couple in our garden if we had room - LOL!

Hi Rosie and thank you for contributing in this discussion too my friend :) How lucky you are to have done it and be able to still do it! My partner Willem has done it too, and had a horse until a few years back, but the payments for a place in the manege where the horse was kept got too heavy and we sold it. It broke his heart really. I think that if our income goes up again he might buy an other one as he really misses it too much, so I understand the view and wishes of your partner too ;) TheFortunes

Just tried it one time, previously with one stable's guidance. But horse very sensitive and react most likely a human. But will try again if got chance. To expensive to have one horse in Malaysia. Not just that, the up keeping costs and the maintenance....wow!!!!!a lot of money. The stable, foods,....., etc.. Unless I live in village area and near the river.....Fuuuuuuuuu Yooooooooo!!!!!good to have horses!!. Equestrianism refers to the skill of riding or driving horses. This broad description includes both use of horses for practical, working purposes as well as recreational activities and competitive sports.
