My newest dog is a little over a year old now, and she has really nice white teeth. The vet said that I need to start brushing them, or they won't stay so nice and white. I have never brushed any of the dogs I have had before, and there teeth were always fine. Milkbones, and things like that kept them pretty clean. So I ended up buying some doggie toothpaste and a brush, and tried to brush her teeth...she seemed to like the toothpaste, but wasn't to happy about the rest. It was really hard to do. I wonder if in time she will get used to it. And how often am I supposed to do this? O know it can't be twice a day like I do! Anybody ever brush there dog' teeth before?

I brush my dog's teeth once a day. The best way to get them use to it is to first put some toothpaste on your finger and let them lick it off. Then put some on the brush (a finger brush works well) and let them lick it off. Give them some time to get use to the brush and then give it a go. Do a little at a time and soon enough they will get use to it.

Thanks for the advice! The toothbrush I bought came with the finger brush too. She likes the toothpaste, so hopefully she'll get use to it! I am so glad that someone else brushes there dog's teeth!!

The vet reccomended it to be done and then she told me the cost of having a dog's teach cleaned. At the clinic here it costs about $400. I decided she wss just going to have to get use to teach brushing because it's cheaper.

No ive never brushed my dogs teeth before. I have never even heard of this. I dont think my dog would let me brush his teeth! He would probably bite me, lol. I didnt even know they had dog toothpaste or brushes, this is all very new to me. I would be calliing the vet back or going there and asking him/her all these questions. I know they have a lot of dog snacks that are supposed to be good for the teeth. I will stick to these.

I didn't know anything about it either until the vet told me, and low and behold, I started seeing doggie toothbrushes everywhere!

I also got a special toothbrush and toothpaste for my dog. I try to brush her teeth 3x a week, if I can. Its a bit difficult but is possible. I just find that I have to be fast and know where I really need to concentrate on with the toothbrush.
