I don't think "Dattebayo" means anything at all. I read somewhere (sorry if i can't tell you where, i forgot) that Dattebayo was just something Naruto added at the end of his sentences to annoy people. but if i turn out to be wrong (hopefully, so that i can know the right catchphrase of naruto instead of the stupid "believe it" the americans use) please do TELL ME. please?thnx.

hey kylina! ^__^
you are not wrong. i asked my friend about it and she said naruto indeed just add it to his sentences to emphasize what he is saying. like, if people use "da" or "yo" at the end of their sentences, then his is "dattebayo". ^__^;; too long but catchy right? its just an expression the creator made only for naruto. and you're right, translating it to "believe it" is really lame and stupid.

hey swirlz! you probably didnt realize that that was me explaining about how long it is. ^__^;; my friend said it doesnt mean anything. its just an expression created by the creator for naruto only. naruto use it to emphasize what he is saying. ^__^ nothing more nothing less. you should trash the "believe it" translation of the americans. LOL

the Americans use "believe it"? I haven't heard of that before. And I'm not sure too if I'll believe it. ^__^
Yeah, it is quite long to be just a phrase to annoy people... Well if I'll learn what it means, I'll tell you. But right now, I'm also depending on Secretbear... ^__^ peace...

Nope.. "Believe it" is just the english dub version of the "word"
^_^
Since it's kinda hard to translate a word that doesn't exist, they have chosen that phrase.
Anyway, if I should guess what the word comes from.. I would guess it has something to do with "but"
cause, "datte" means "but"

I'm not disappointed. I'm actually quite pleased to know that I'm not the only one who's wondering. I'm a fan of Naruto too. And knowing that no one knows what it means just makes me more curious. hehe
Please do tell me if you'll find out what it means from your friend. Thank you.

i do think that dattebayo is a word naruto uses as an extension of what he is saying (just to annoy people :D)..it doesn not translate to anything literally..
there are some japanes that has extensions to what they are saying..just like Kenshin in Rorouni Kenshin that his phrase actually end in "de gozaru/ka" :)
FYI, originally, the author of naruto wanted kakashi to speak differently, the way kenshin speaks, to end his statements in " de gozaru" but later put off the idea.. :P

Dattebayo means something like "Believe it",
It is translated that way,it is special word that Naruto says.
There are many other characters in anime that use
"catchphrases" like Deidara's "un" and so on.
