in a particular step?
After 35 years of married life, now-a-days I do not caution my spouse, unless the step is going to be extremely slippery resulting in irretrievable and irrecoupable losses. Ordinarily, since they are also matured persons, better to leave things to their judgement, even if the consequences are to be suffered by all the family members. Particularly in respect of minor things, there may be a danger of our spouse thinking that we are habitual fault-finders or grumblers.
I wish to have your valid views.

I am totally the opposite. I give warnings of caution all the time to my spouse. If there is a weird step, I say watch your step. If the gound is wet I say be careful not to slip. I think that this shows that I care for my spouse and respect him.
