I would usually set my phone to silent mode so that it does not disturb the meeting. I do the same thing too when I'm in the cinema and in the restaurant.
if i have an important phone, then i must receive it even i'm having a meeting. frankly, i often have a meeting on Mondays, and it is a routine meeting, so it is very boring. then i had never received my calls out of the meeting room, although my manager warn me many times. haha , i like his angry face very much. he is not a good man. i hate him, and i often like to anger someone who i dont' like,. it is funnny.

Silent mode in restaurant huh. I guess should do so also if the restaurant is of quiet type. It's chicky of you to irritate your boss and I like that haha.

My phone is on silent mode forever, meetings or not. I love it when it doesn't ring and makes me feel nervous picking up the phone. I guess because I love the quietness so much that I can't really stand hearing my phone ring *laughs*.

That is a nice one. I guess the ring tone in your phone doesn't apply to you either, haha.

I do not have a cell phone but it certainly does bother me when I hear someone's cell phone ringing in church or at the movies. I suppose you could get so used to having a cell phone that you forget to turn it off at times but just as checking your messages is a habit, so too should be turning off your cell phone when inappropriate.
One time we heard a cell phone ringing pretty loudly in church. Enough to have everyone turn and see an off duty priest ducking out the back door of the church with cell phone in hand. That got a few laughs because of who he was (a real clown, loved by all, especially the kids).
I think if my husband had a cell phone he would more than likely forget it at home. He went a couple of years forgetting his wallet at home so I KNOW he would forget his cell phone. No point in getting him one. We lived without one this long.

Hello daveisdavid, Yes I set my cellphone to silent mode when I am in meetings. Its a proper thing to do so as not to disrupt the meeting. I think its annoying to hear phone ringing when you are in a middle of a discussion in a meeting. I have attended lots of business trainings and seminars, this is one of the the thing that the speaker always teach and discuss. To set one's phone off or turn it on silent mode if your waiting for an important call during a meeting. :-)

Exactly, one should be considerate by putting to silent mode or turn off the cellphone during the meeting.

I do. I find it rude when someone is in a meeting and just goes because his/her phone rang. It's like not giving a damn about what is being discussed.
And of course, in the cinema you MUST set it silent at least. You should turn it off, anyway... that's what the funny character on the screen always says before the movie starts... lol

Since I have four kids, I always set my phone to vibrate when in a meeting. But those that I am meeting with know that I will look to see who is calling to determine if I need to take the call. But even at that, if I have to take the call, I excuse myself from the room so that the meeting may proceed without interuption. I think it is quite rude of people that don't turn the ringer off on their phone during a meeting or in the cinema.
The one that really gets me is when you go out to eat, and the table next to you, all you hear is the cell phone.
