hi frannie, i have three girls. On my oldest daughters second birthday I threw all of her bottles except for one in the trash. The one that was left, she treated like it was a piece of fine china. After about a week with only one bottle in the house, we were at Walmart. I bought on of those sippy cups with the silicone spout (Nubby brand I think) and put it in the cart under some stuff so she didn't see it. I had the bottle in my pocket. As we were leaving the store I dropped the bottle in the trash when she wasn't looking. When we got in the car she started asking for it. I told her it got lost in the store, that it was gone-gone. She whined for a little bit. I pulled out the new sippy cup and rinsed it out with some bottled water. I filled it up with some juice for her and told her that this was her new bottle. She didn't know what to think about it at first and then she got to where she wouldn't drink out of anything but that cup. Now at age 7 she doesn't drink from sippy cups anymore(thank goodness), but I still have her cup. My middle daughter gave up her bottle on her own at 14 months. So i didn't have a problem there. My youngest daughter is 26 months now and she has been off the bottle for about 8 months. I did basically the same thing with her, threw them all away but one. But she decided on her own that she wanted to drink from a cup. Good luck in breaking your child from the bottle. The bottle is such a comfort to a child, and you hate to take that away. But for health reasons (like tooth decay)it just has to be done. I hope you have easy success with it.
