A man was shot in front of my house last night.

I've since seen on the news that he died in hospital.
I won't give a link to the news article about the shooting as it basically gives my address.
I'd just gone to bed and was reading a book when I heard the shots outside and a car speeding away - a man had been shot in his car across the road from my flat. I called the police who turned up a few minutes later along with an ambulance.
Later on the forensics team turned up and took loads of photos.
This morning my street was taped of and my flat is now in the middle of a crime scene.
Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep last night. I'm hoping that the police will have gone by the time I get home so that I don't have to go through all the tape again.
Have any of you experienced something like this?
It makes me wonder what kind of area I'm living in (I only moved there a couple of months ago). Would you stay there after that, or move away?

Thanks for your response although I doubt I'll be moving due to this. If there were regular shootings and I felt at risk I would move away but I think this was just bad luck that someone who was a target for this sort of act happened to be outside my house when the crime was committed.

Wow, that must have been so scary!! I have definitely never experienced anything like that before, and hope that I won't ever. I guess if something like that happened where I live, I would maybe try to find out if anything like that has ever happened in the area before, and then decide whether or not I wanted to stay. If I had kids or something, then I'd be more likely to move probably.

I am sorry what happen there. That's really sad and we don't know what can happen wherever we are.I have similar experience.I just move to apartmen complex and after two weeks we had a break in.Another week pas and there was another note about same thing, somebody break in to somebodys' apartman.I am scared but I didn't moved out.I don't think it would help, while it can happen just in other place also.Yeah of course I am scared now when I hear some voices, but moving out it 'snot solution for me.

Sorry you had to go through that Marky. I have never been in that situation and very grateful of that. I am not sure what i would do, I mean, is your neighborhood typically crime ridden? I live on a very busy street. I think mostly are homeowners, we do have a rental or two across the street that has been rented to a few questionable families. I feel safe in the town I live in, but the street I live on makes me feel a little unsafe, its busy and dark.

I didn't go outside as I wasn't sure the person who did the shooting had gone and I have a bad history for getting injured whenever there's any possibility of it.
There haven't been any updated news items about it yet so I'm still not sure of the details. I would like to find out why he was shot - I think that knowing there was a reason for the shooting and that this man was specifically targetted rather than a random victim would help put my mind at ease.

If I were you maybe I cant sleep for a week. I dont know but I think thats really horrible. and I dont know if I can tale it, esp when i see the tape on the street. It would only remind me of the man who was shot there. I dont know if I can stay there any longer. I guess you should be careful if you dont know the kind of place you are living.

Wow, that is very frightening. I have not experienced something like that myself. But I have certainly heard of stories where shots have gone stray (or missed their target) and ended up hitting an innocent person sleeping in a home. I think I would consider moving if at all possible, but that is just me.

I am sorry you had such a bad experience, do you know if they already caught the person who did it? I can imagine you did not sleep anymore last night. But I would not move away unless it is something that happens very often where you live. Because something like this can happen everywhere.
