Has anyone here ever had skin cancer? Would you be willing to talk about it?

A couple of weeks ago my husband went to the dermatologist to have a spot removed from his face, it's skin cancer! Melanoma...that is such a scary word to us. The day he had it removed, we had a friend die after a 2 year battle with a rare form of melanoma. He went to see a plastic surgeon about having it removed, we found out that it may be a little worse than the dermatologist said it was. He goes next Wednesday to have it (hopefully the rest of it) removed. With all we've been through in the last several months with illnesses and deaths in the family, we're both pretty worried about this. I'm so thankful that I went to the doctor last week about my anxiety or I'd be a total wreck right now.
Has anyone else been diagnosed with skin cancer, and would you be willing to share your experience with us?

I personally have not, but my grandfather has had skin cancer removed from his face 3 times. This last time that nicked a nerve on his face and he can't make facial expressions with that side of his face. They are hoping that it is not permanent. He has had it on his nose, and both sides of his face.

Thank you for sharing that with me. I hope your grandfather is able to regain the use of his face (on the one side). I hope something like that doesn't happen to my husband, I know that's always possible though. I hope your grandfather doesn't have anymore problems and that they have gotten it all. Thanks again.

It was only a few weeks ago that they did the one that affected his face. They went pretty deep to get and got all of it. That is how they managed to nick the nerve I guess. I forgot to put in my last response, but I hope all goes well for your husband and that they get all of it.
