Disappointed With The Internet

I have been fairly happy with the internet service I have had over the last few years, but as of recently I am a bit disappointed to say that the service has declined dramatically. I'm paying $42.95 a month for what, constant connection drops (which I know aren't my modem or my computer having problems), really slow speeds at certain times of the day, and a whole host of other server and what have you problems. In which they are slow to give an explanation of what the deal is.
I'm usually not to fussy about these sort of things, because I do know that at times there will be problems, equipment failures, and the like, but when it becomes a daily occurance than something is definately up and gets me to the point of being just annoyed.
I'm on the verge of switching services, but DSL is pretty much out of the question since the local ones are nearly asking $60.00 a month and there's no way I am going back to dial-up.
So my question is would one stay with current internet provider and hope the service gets better without the daily problems? or pay nearly $20.00 extra to go with a different local internet provider?

Wow, jeweled, that is really expensive! I pay less than half that amount for DSL, and my service is very good most of the time. I could never afford internet service if I had to pay more. Maybe you should shop around because I know that there are companies out there that would be less expensive.

I did some shopping around and the ones that I found to be less expensive, don't cover my area. They told me that if there were to be enough people in my area to get their service than they would extend their service area. I have pretty much decided to stick with my current internet service provider, but will keep doing some shopping around and see what I can manage to dig up in the process. Thanks for your input.

We had cable internet for a short time when we first moved to our apartment and it was a nightmare. Constant drops, slow speeds, ect. We finally got fed up and added DSL to our phone bill. We've never had a problem with Spint DSL and even now it runs great. Occasionally we have to reset the modem but it only takes about 3-4 minutes and thats it.
I hope you find a solution that your happy with.

Thanks for your reply. :) I've decided to stick with my current service and try to ignore the problems it is having. I did some shopping around yesterday after starting this discussion and most that I found didn't cover the area I live in, so that pretty much sealed the deal, and in no way am I paying more just to have the internet. Thanks again!

Depends on where you live, but is Bellsouth in your area? If so, they have a good deal on DSL. We had the slow dial up for years and were so ready for DSL. Sounds like you are paying a lot of money for poor service. If it were me, I would definitely check around for better service. If you can afford the extra $20.00, I would consider going with different local provider. Best of luck in making the right decision.

I will have to see if Bellsouth covers my area. It's hard to find things for this area, since it's small and we can't even get AOL service out here..lol! With most things that deal with this subject they need enough customers in that area that are asking for their service before they will extend their coverage, or at least is my understanding from what they have told me.
I have decided to stick with current internet service until something better can be found.

Hi Hun! Sorry to hear that you are having such problems with your internet provider. Sadly I am having the same kinds of problems too! I can understand if their is a storm, or at "rush hour" but at other times it will lag and it's high speed! I know it's not my computer as I just got a brand new Dell this year. Everytime I call the cable & internet provider I never get answers, 9 times out of 10 it can be fixed over the phone but still it's a hastle! If your paying money for a service, it should be done right!

Holy moly..who the heck is your provider that you're paying so much? And here I was grumbling about the cost of my DSL internet connection which is Verizon...it's $29.99 a month..I've never had problems with it, never slow, nothing...I can't have dial up, as I have a Mac computer and Macs don't have internal dial-up modems..can get but would be extra to have installed...I think Macs figure, if you're going to have a Mac computer one doesn't stoop to the lowly dial up modems..LOL

I use Comcast Cable Highspeed Internet. It was a good a service so didn't mind paying the $42.95, but lately the service has been declining badly, and they are getting horrid with the connection drops. It's just not me that's going through it either, but my friends I have also been going through the connection drops and what not.
I'm paying nearly $120.00 every month to Comcast, since I have their digital cable service as well, one would think with their customers paying so much they would make sure they were giving their customers the best service possible. I'm pretty sure they have the money to do so.

You have Comcast....the big cable internet and cable service here is Time Warner...they're not so great either and they charge a fortune too.

Your lucky to have anything I have to get internet by satilite and they limit how long you can be on and I connect at 24kbps for only 79.99 a month plus fees! So be thankful!

I'm the most thankful person one could ever run into. But when I am paying out money that could be used for something much more important than the internet, I expect the service to be good, it don't have to be 24/7 since as I stated I understand problems arise.
I'm sorry to hear that you are getting shafted like that with the service you have.
If it wasn't for needing the internet for business purposes, than we wouldn't even be having this discussion, because I would have the internet shut off and just go to the library or internet cafe.

Well I am having a few Problems to but I am changing Server as it will go with my Phone and I got a better Deal then what I have now
Maybe you need to look around and see if you can get a better deal if not then yes I would be tempted to pay the Extra if it will make a difference
