Family planning is one of the most important steps any young couple will have to undertake. Getting the right answers from the right people is important. Knowing what you will have to do once you become a parent is something you were not taught in school so finding that information is your first step. Following is a list of useful areas you might want to consider when planning a family. 1. Having health insurance for the two of you may not be enough once you have a baby. Contact your health insurance provider and make sure your policy is up to date. Explain with him or her about your plans of expanding your family and make sure that your little bundle of joy will be covered. 2. Is your house or apartment big enough? If not - now is the time to start making arrangements to move. Start checking options to obtain a larger place. 3. How many children do you and your spouse want? Make sure before you start your family that you both agree on the size of your family. 4. Changes in the life style will be one of the biggest differences you will both face. Before the baby both of you may be spending a lot of time going out to eat, taking vacations to exotic locations or partying. Be prepared to discontinue some of these activities or make plans that will allow both of you some basic life style freedoms but still expand up your family. 5. Love and laughter is a must when raising a family. One of the best determining factors of what life will be like after the baby arrives is the sounds you hear in your house now. Is there a lot of laughter and love between the two of you? do you share everthing with each other? If so then more then likely your baby will experience those same joys in life. Planning shouldn't be just about when to have a baby. It should also include some of the most basic things we all face every day. Knowing what to expect after the baby comes and knowing you've covered all the basics will provide you with a piece of mind and enable you to get started on your family. Don't you wish you could have been told some of these things when you were in school? Just think how much easier family life would be if we were taught these things before we started a family.

It definitely would have been great if we were taught this in school. We had to learn from our mistakes and no one to guide us but ourselves. If not at school, a pre-marital counselling of this sort is necessary.
