Who's Going Apple Picking The Autumn? Got Orchards In Your Area?

Here in the East, most of the Orchards have been relaced by developments, but a search revealed that some, mainly in NJ., are hanging in there... I remember going on apple-picking holidays as a kid and scoring bushel-baskets full of them, different varieties, too! The thing was, we wound up with more than we knew what to do with- as apples are only pennies a pound back then... nowadays I've seen prices jump up into double figures for some types of apples, oh well... So back then, we used to give away some of the apples as Trick Or Treat gifts at Halloween- kids would get five or six apples, instead of expensive candies- which they wanted, but we couldn't afford... We also learn how to make lots of apple stuff- sauce, jellies, jams, cider- and the untimate apple pies- which could be sold to our neighbors, hmmmmmmmmmmmm- NOW, I realize why my folks would enlist an army of us kids to go out and risk bees, hot or freezing weather and stuff like that, to pick what seemed like 300,000 apples! Those weren't "Orchard Holidays" at all! That damn "Profit Motive" will burst your childhood bubble every time! :) LOL!
