33 year old Officer Nick Erfle was shot and killed while questioning 3 jaywalkers at 8:30am. When he and his parenter learned one of the jaywalkers ( 22 year old, Anthony Sanchez) had a warrant for aggrivated assualt, Erfle went to him and began to arrest him. Erfle's partner was close by with the remaining jaywalkers. A physical confrontation ensued and Sanchez pulled a handgun, shot multiple shots. Erfle was shot fatally in the face. He was pronounced dead at 9:30am.
Officer Nick Erfle was a cancer survivor. '"He had had a very bad bout with cancer; in fact, we thought we were going to lose him. He had lost a considerable amount of weight. He had just made his way back," said Lt. Robert Sparks.' But Officer Erfle fought back, got better, and rejoined the force. Only to be killed because people couldn't use a crosswalk.
Officer Erfle was married, with two boys, ages 3 and 5.

THIS is scary....especially since I was in Phoenix on Monday! YIKES!!! I may have been "right there," who knows? OK not when it happened, but STILL, it's a bit weird when a crime takes place in familliar territory.

Yeah. And it's very upsetting to know people could do that to eachother.
I forgot to mention what happened to the jerk that killed him. After he killed Officer Erfle he carjacked someone, made them drive, and held them hostage. The cops later cornered Snachez and his hostage and shot and killed him. The hostage was okay.

Wow that is really messed up. Its really sad a good person got killed because some stupid guy wanted to act a fool. It even sadder that the guy being arrested was not even suppose to be in this country in the first place. Why would he even havea warrent for his arrest, why didn't they just deport his a$$ the first time he got introuble? It's just really sad it all went down like that.

Yeah it is awful :( And really sad. I'm not positive about this, but I think Officer Erfle was killed shortly after returning to the force after his battle with cancer.
Yes, Sanchez was an illegal alien...but he might have took off after assualting that person that earned him the arrest warrant. That might be why he wasn't deported.
