Coffee creamer alternatives?

I have recently become a major fan of coffee, every other afternoon (as to avoid caffeen triggered migraines as opposed to having it daily) I'll either have hot coffee and bread sticks or ice coffee and a snack. I love it, especially since the new Dunkin' Donuts coffee beans became available in my area! Here's the problem though, I HAVE to use creamer and I've discovered that the creamer I've been using (International Delight and Coffee Mate) really upset my tummy. I don't really like it with just milk so I'm wondering what else is out there to add some flavor to coffee? What do you use?

Have you tried Half 'N Half? I know my boyfriend prefers this to all others. He says it is creamier.

My husband gets diarrhea if he uses half and half. Just a warning that this is a problem for some people.

That's odd, as International Delight and others are not lactose based, and it seems that's what upsets most people's stomachs. If you don't like drinking your coffee with a milk based product, you could try some of the soy creamer based products. I don't know how they taste, but they might not upset you as bad.

It probably is the fat that is used. They use vegetable oils, the last I checked. It could also be the corn solids. Some people have a problem with corn.

How weird, I thought for sure it was the milk. Maybe it's all the sugar? I'll try the sugar free version and test that out, thanks.

*smiles* I never use any creamer. I drink coffee with just sugar. I know that the milk or the cream would bring unnecessary fat to the body (people thought it was sugar but it was wrong) and they could be very fattening. Well, I stopped using those quite some time ago and now I got used to the black taste of coffee. I think it's better for health this way if I want to drink it.

How about vanilla or some other liquid flavoring. I like almond or other nut flavor in my coffee. I also like splinda in my coffee. Have you thought about getting a cappuccino machine then you can have steemed milk that would taste like cream.

Hello gmakemoney, I too like drinking coffee with creamer in the morning and the afternoon with snacks. For me I either used coffee creamer, nestle's coffeemate or Alaska all purpose creamer, or just plain milk. I am not sure of other alternative as coffee creamer as I have not tried them. I have heard of coffee shops using coconut milk powder made out of coconut oil. They say its a perfect alternative to dairy creamers in coffee. I think it might help not to upset to your tummy because coconut oil is burned by the body for energy rather than stored as fat. :-)

Thanks for the coconut tip, I'll see if I can find some of that. I bet it lends a great taste too!

I sometimes use sweetened condensed milk (which takes care of adding sugar too). Soy milk works great to if lactose is a problem but you only tend to get have soy milk available at the more enlightened coffee houses :)

Yuk--I never use those coffee creamers...taste like shat to me..LOL- I just use a little non-fat milk..but hey..how about mixing in with the milk just a tad of something like that sweetened condensed milk? Those coffee creamers are almost one hundred percent chemical concoctions anyway, while the condensed milk it purer

Well sometimes i just use milk when there isn't any creamer around. It works for me and i'd still like my coffee. ^_^ I can't drink coffee without any sort of creamer.

Mocha Mix... we use it for everything, EXCEPT making pudding mixes and the like. The other creamers have more sugar in them. This stuff tastes like rich milk, with none of the evils!

Hello, I've enjoyed success in using powdered chocolate as a cream substitute. Ghirardelli (www.ghirardelli.com) was the best I found--it lacked that overpowering chocolatey invasion that can ruin a good cup of morning brew in a hurry, and still managed to be as creamy as my beloved Coffee Mate. Best of all, their ground chocolate is available unsweetened if sugar is problematic.
