My husband and I try to go to the farmer's market at Denio's (a weekend flea market) every week. We buy fresh fruit and vegetables at prices that are much cheaper than at the grocery store. Also, we're able to find things that we can't at our normal grocery store. What about you? Do you shop at a farmer's market?

I don't go to a farmer's market but to a amish market.I love it while they don't use any chemical and everything is fresh. Also fruits and vegetables are much more cheaper at the store. Also tehy have flowers and home-made bread(something delicous), cookies, jam , honey...I like to buy everything I can or need there. It looks good and fresh.

Hi there. Yes we do and we call them flea markets... They have produce ranging from veges, to home made foods, such as pickles, jams, chutneys and ready made salads... Bottle fruit and dried fruit... I love going to these places, you get a great bargain and all these veges and fruit are best of all, home grown, they also have organic produce too, but I dont like the organic stuff, you never know what organic manure or soil was used to grow them lol...

Well its somewhat the reverse here in India. As it is we go to the market almost everyday to get our supplies of fresh veggies and meat/fish. But sometimes when we do go to the supermarkets to buy some other stuff and end up buying veggies too, they are much cheaper in the supermarkets than in the local fresh market. The reason being that here in India, whatever is sold in the open market is not bought directly from the farmers by the consumers. Instead these produce reaches us through a chain of middle-men who buy it from farmers in bulk regularly and then sell to the shop-keepers in the markets and then we buy it from these shop-keepers. In-between, the prices just keep rising. But these supermarkets buy the produce in bulk from the farmers and sell it to the consumers directly and hence they can afford to sell cheap. But even then, we don’t really buy much from them, as we Indians like our veggies and non-veggies fresh.

I try to go to a farmer's market once a week. There is one held every saturday in the downtown area of my city. Local farmers come and sell produce, flowers and other goods. Its not always cheaper than the grocery store, but the produce is often cheaper and fresher. Its also nice to support local growers and farmers. Its also has a lesser carbon impact than if I was to get imported produce at the grocery store.

Hello talisman, Yes we do shop at farmer's markets. Usually over the weekends and we do have several farmer's markets near our place. Yes I agree its much cheaper buying there than in groceries or supermarkets. You'll find lots of stuff there much more that you could see in a grocery. Also you get to haggle for the price of fruits, vegetables, or whatever stuff your buying. :-)

Hello talisman,
Isn't it great to go to the Farmer's Market on the weekend? I just love going on Saturday morning. Ours is in the downtown area, in a large park. It is so nice walking from the parking lot to the merchant booths. Each merchant has their booth set up to show off their ware. Some have fruits and vegetables. Some have baked goods. Some have craft items they have made. Some are actually making kettle corn on the spot. A few even make coffee for the customers.
We also have some music playing. There is a four piece band doing some songs. The kids are all running around trying to find something they are interested in, while the parents are walking around making their purchases.
To me, the atmosphere is simply awesome. Everyone being so nice to each other and helping each other find good deals, sharing ideas of how to dos, and simply enjoying themselves.
It is very important to support you local growers, and this is how we do it in my city.
Happy posting..
