In the news in Australia at the moment is a story about a gay couple who had IVF treatment to have a baby. They are now sueing their gyneacologist for over $400,000 because they had twins, not just one baby. They are claiming that they only asked for one child and are sueing because of the added expence of now having two children, not one and because of the "strain" of having two babies will place on their relationship.
I'm sorry, but this couple really p*ss me off! Not because they are gay (I would feel the same way if a hetro couple did this), but because they are ungratefull. Sure, having an extra, enexpected child would be difficult but I really don't think that it's anything to sue about. Before the IVF treatment, the couple even consented to up to 2 embryos being implanted. Personally I don't think they have a case.
Children are a gift and should be treated as such. There are plenty of couples out there that are unable to conceive at all, so this really irritates me.
Just my thoughts. What are your feelings on this?????

Gees I am in Australia and I haven't seen anything about this, I am with you I think they are very ungrateful and I hope the case gets thrown out, and I know it is not a gay issue as such but they are not doing the gay society any favours with this stupidity...

I can't help but wonder how this "extra" baby is going to feel as s/he grows up knowing they only wanted one baby.
I do understand how this couple must feel very stressed and worried about how they will handle two babies but that is no reason to sue. They knew the risk when they decided to do IVF. It's no different than any other couple intentionally trying to conceive, the "risk" of twins is always there and anyone who is planning a pregnancy NEEDS to be prepared for that possibility.
I don't think they have a "real case" but doctors/clinics usually would rather settle for some monetary amount than go through the court processes so they'll probably get some money anyway...of course I think it should come with a stipulation that it is ONLY to be used as a trust fund for the children's future. This couple should not benefit in anyway just because they didn't want their extra blessing...two healthy children should be reward enough.
