At what age do you stop breast feeding? I have a friend who is dating this girl who breast feeds her two year old son. The thing is is that he eats regulr meals and even cows milk and juice to wile being breast fed all day. They will be watching a movie and the little boy will yell at his mom "down". Down is his command for his mother to feed him. While breast feeding he will go to each breast many times asthough he is playing. He will even climb into bed with them in the mornings while they are not properly clothed and demand to be breast fed.
he is upset' and rightly so. I understand all the organizations out there that promote breast feeding. But come on when a child is showing sighns that he is ready to be weened....isn't there more appropiate ways for a two year old like a breast pump? I mean this kid is getting ready to start pre-school. I would lke some opinions because I have mine I'm just not sure it would the best advice to give him.

new zelandtralian,
THanks! I hope I didn't give the impression it was easy for me to get them to nruse. Only my daughter (second child) got it from the getgo.
My twins were 10 weeks until they latched on, and probably 5 months before they nursed well. I pumped and gave it to them in a bottle and worked on latching a few times a day. They're ability not to nurse (very common in preemies under a certain gestation) was a great fact in my post partum depression the first time. I was lucky to be blessed with oodles of milk, so pumping was not a problem for me.
My new guy didn;t give a hoot for the first month :). Even being number 4, it still bummed me out a bit. So he got it via the bottle as well. He now nurses very well from about 4-6 weeks, but it took some work for him.
