I do give money when I can and how much I can afford. I do feel I have a duty to help those less fortunate than me. I might not be rich but I am ok but there are people that for one reason or another have much less than me so if I can help them a little I dont mind. In australia we dont have many beggars so its not a big issue anyway I wont get broke if I give them a dollar.

I agree about helping. But there are some people on the streets because that is where they want to be. So I follow my heart when it comes to one. Here in the US there are shelters that try to get people off the streets and help them get back on their feet. But they have to want to turn their lives around. You know the old saying you can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

yes definatly a good trait. I think it shows alot about someone when you help people we dont know without reward and will probably never see again..
Ok when you write it down it sounds stupid but that person is someone. Someone that is hungry, homeless and doing whatever than can to survive and put food on the table. This is someones mother or father son or daughter friend or partner.
I dont know how so many people can walk past without a thought into their life or how the will eat 2nite.

I usually keep a couple of gift cards to McDonalds or Burger King in my wallet. They're only $5 or $10 but I believe we should do what we can to help others. By giving the gift cards, I know it won't get spent on whiskey.

hello trex! u are right. in india there are lakhs of baggers you will see...in the streets,at home, at temples, church,mosques...daily morning to evening, old men, young men, children, women ...all are begging.i have all sympathy with them. but i don't like this practice since the government of india gives all facilities to the weaker sections of population.the physically handicapped also getting assitance.then why bagging.you will be astonished that these baggers have accounts in banks and some of them also giving loans to small business man.i have seen a few of them. so i don't like to give alms to any baggers.no doubt service to man kind is meant service to god.it should be limited only to the needy.thanks a lot.

I am not against helping the needy but i would recommend that one should try to see if the help is really needed or not. I mean there are a number of persons who are physically fit and capable of working still they beg rather than working and earning a living.
