I'm watching "Rich Bride Poor Bride" on television right now and this couple has chosen to have an ATM at their wedding reception. I've never heard of this before have you? Do you think it's tacky or a good thing to do? According to this couples' wedding planner, they are choosing to have the ATM because they're afraid that people forgot or didn't bring enough money to put into their envelope at the reception. Personally I find it a bit tacky...what's your view on it? Would you do it?

OMG! That is so tacky. That just seems very selfish to me. What if people didn't want to give them money at all. That would make them feel obligated to get money out of the bank and give it to the couple. Again very selfish.

This is a hilarious idea! Hehehe.
I think that it is practical to have a simple wedding and an ATM can be useful. LOL. Well its true, useful for the couple and for their visitors.
I just can't imagine what the visitors' reaction will be. Hehehe. Thanks for sharing this idea and for making me laugh today. God bless!

you see, I could understand it if they had a venue that was a bit out of the way, and a paying bar. so guests could get more money out if they ran out, or hadn't realised it was a paying bar.
but so they could get money out to give to them is just being spoilt and tacky.

I think that is extremely tacky! I would never do that, and I would be disgusted if I attended a wedding where the couple had done that!

I saw that same episode! My jaw just dropped when I heard they wanted to do something so tacky and in poor taste. I can't believe the wedding planner actually went along with that. You don't invite people to a wedding so that they can give money to you - you invite them because you want them to celebrate and witness your marriage.
I would be really insulted as a guest to learn that the couple brought an ATM to the wedding reception so that guests could top up their gift envelopes. As a guest, that kind of tacky and greedy attitude would actually make me want to give less money to the couple!

I agree. It's too sad that some people don't see the purpose of weddings anymore. It's kinda funny in a way too but it only shows greed.
They're putting on a party they can't afford that's why they need people to pay for everything ~ The best way to do this is by putting up an ATM.
I had the same feeling when my friend invited too many 'popular' people in their wedding because they wanted more gift envelopes and gifts.
I'd rather want people who are 'close' to me at weddings. Even if it's only a few. I don't need to feed or invite everyone and then worry about expenses in the end. One sole purpose of the occasion is overlooked here... They're there to get married and not to raise funds.

If I ever went to a wedding reception that had an ATM machine I would leave! That is so rude. Not only are they asking for money but they are literally showing how greedy they are. Wow I do not think so! Tacky is putting it mildly! That is just out right crappy!

I THINK THIS IS THE TACKIEST thing I have ever heard of! Is this wedding being held just to open a bank account.

If that ever happened. I wouldn't give any gifts at all. I'd just go there to see what the people's reactions would be. hehehe...

I don't know enough about the situation to know whether or not it's tacky. It certainy sounds unusual, but it might depend on the situation. Are they having a casino reception with real gambling? I personally would not have a casino reception, but if that were the case, it would be practical....in some cases, as long as guests don't have gambling problems.

I have agree with you that it's a bit tacky. But then, I kind of understand it, but I would make the thing available in an outside area or something rather than right there in the middle of everything so that it wasn't like a neon sign in people's faces.
I know many couple now have a "money tree" at their wedding reception, which is actually kind of a neat idea. My cousin had a huge wedding with over 300 people in attendance a few years ago and they did the money tree thing. I thought it was terribly tacky at the time, but in retrospect I understand it. It's a good way to let people give money by participating in something fun and the couple tends to get a lot of money to start out their married lives together. My cousin literally had thousands of dollars when they went through it all a couple of days after the wedding. I was floored by it.
