I ws taught Karate, and Judo, but my recommendation is Akido, I always wanted to learn that, Steven Segal is a very good example of Akido. In Akido you use your opponent strength against him. And they teach you how to defend against several opponents. Now with the influence of Mix Martial arts, Jujistu or grappling, because 75% of fights end up on the ground.

Kung Fu from the legendary Shao Lin Temple, Kung Fu uses circular motions to block punches and kicks, and step aside from incoming blow. They also use weapons, the staff, two or three connected sticks, sword, long staff, etc. The problem with Kung Fu is what happens if you and the opponent end up on the ground, that is where alot of the action takes place, which why I suggest to include Jujitsu or grappelling.
