Did or Do you make your baby's food homemade?

When my daughter was a baby, I bought babyfood, but when my son was born, I made his homemade. Its funny, it saves a TON of money, and I didn't need to save it as much when I had my son as I did when I had my daughter. I just didn't know any better back then. I would make a batch of carrots for example, puree them and put them in ice cube trays. Each cube was a serving when he first started, then as he got bigger, it would be two or so cubes. I only made food on Sundays, so it wasn't time consuming and usually that sunday would be like one or two things cooked and they would last a few weeks. It was rewarding and my son is now the best eater!

congratulations! i puree vegetables and fruits for my daughters, too. when my eldest was still a baby, i bought some of the branded baby foods that cost me some money which she'd finish in a flash. that gave me the idea of making her own food myself. in that way, i'm sure that what i know what's in what she eats, and i even have the choice of feeding her organic veggies and fruits that are pesticide-free.

very true! they say that the food in the jars is all natural, but there are so many processes that food goes through before it gets to your house. I was able to go to the farmers market to get some local produce, since I didn't have a garden myself.

Yes I mande the baby food for both of my kids! We couldn't really afford it with either one and you are right it is super easy to make and doesn't take alot of time. I used all kinds of fruits and veggies to make lots of differnt foods for them.

I remember one thing I used to do. I would bake the apples in some water in the oven, which then became apple juice (flavored at least). Then I would take that juice and cook his carrots in it. He thought that was yummy

I did make homeade food for my oldest when he was a baby but when my daughter came along it just wasnt possible....I didnt have the time since I had to go back to work when she was 5 weeks old, my son was only 18 months old when she was born and I was a single parent etc etc...It just wasnt doable....With my third child it also wasnt doable due to the fact he was a preemie and lived in the hospital for the first 5 months of his life...When he finally came home for the time that he did he wasnt ready for real food yet...

When I had my son, I actually had less time then I did with my daughter. Its funny that on Sunday, my only day off, I just made a batch of food and put it in the freezer, it wasn't like I had to do it every day or take up a lot of time. I worked in a career position, where I put in a minimum of 50 hours a week, plus time at home.

I did buy baby food to keep on hand for occassions when I needed it but for the most part my babies ate whatever my husband and I were having for dinner. I put everything through the blender for them before adding any spices. I used recycled baby jars to store veges and meats for left overs. the icecube tray is an excellent idea!

Steamed Buns sounds funny! What is a steamed stuff bun?? You are right, making the food was actually enjoyable for me, among all other benefits of doing it. It made me want to cook more, more creativity in the kitchen.

You did the right thing. You made the food for the baby instead of buying readymade food. Even though it is time consuming it is the best we can give to our child. I too made food for my baby at home. I too steam cooked vegetables and mashed and gave my baby. It is really rewarding. Take care.
